Default Wilson Tidewater Advice?

It's been a few years since I have launched at Memalose and run up into Wilson tidewater. I now have a larger/ heavier boat and I am concerned about a defined channel being available at low tide. The new rig is a bit too heavy for the ol' 'jump out and shove show'! Knowing that changing delta from the past, I assume everything is different.

.....come on.... I promise not to throw my bobber in your spot. I just have a longing to head back to one of my old haunts!

The oyster house hole at the corner should be good with bait wrapped kwikfish, spinners and back bouncing eggs the last 2 hours of the incoming. Personaly at this time of year, I like kwikfish on the incoming. The deeper water is near the corner next to the road.
The sands have really changed the upper bay. The Wilson entrance is very shallow, timing your trip to coincide with the last half of the incoming is important as well as a very shallow draft sled. There are several large stumps to watch out for. You should visit the entrance during low tide to map out the route. If I remember correctly, travel up a little left of center. There is a slot at the entrance of the Wilson into the bay next to the sands, depth depends on tides. At low tide say .0, the depth is only 1.5 foot apx.

Near the mouth of the Wilson, there are a few snags with markers attached, the deeper water is close to these snags. The corner area (pilings)near the road downstream from the oyster hole is filled in with sand, travel near the middle towards the right side (Wilson side) to get to the picket fence and lower bay. The slots are narrow except at high tide, you'll be trolling in depths of 4 to 6 feet a lot. I have even seen fish caught in 3 feet of water.

The area is hard to describe, just have a good working depth finder and shallow draft boat.

good luck,

Gregg

As the new rig is too heavy for the jump and shove, keep to a few hours either side of high. You know the drill, yah it has changed, but it really hasen't changed if ya know what I mean.

I did not motor up the Wilson from Memaloose this year. I did see a few boats head up during high flood and a few very small shallow draft sleds head up during the first half of the outgoing one morning.

When I motored past the mouth on a low tide, I was very surprised at how shallow the entrance is and how many large stumps are scattered across the tidal entrance. In fact, when I first checked it out earlier this year, wondered if anyone could still make it up. The other item your going to see is just how shallow the entire area is off the mouth and across to the road. The sands have filled in most of the area along the road just up from the pilings. At low tides, lots of sand is exposed and in several spots the water is only inches deep. Play it safe and idle on down at low tide and keep a carefull eye on the depth finder.

best of luck,

Gregg

Thanks for the quick reponse guys. Hookset's detail explanation actually makes sense in my mind's eye. I think I can do it !

I fish large open water and troll myself senseless through most of the spring and fall seasons. It is always oddly relaxing and exciting to plunk a bobber in a nontypical stretch of salmon water. In the past, November has been a month that was very good to me.

Thanks again.

John
