Default Quick Fish

I was wondering, are those of you that are fishing quick fish, using a weighted dropper line or are you fishing them straight off the main line?

I used a weighted dropper line when fishing a quick fish for springers.I believe it was a four ft. line of course I was anchored at the time.

I mainline them at times when the current or depth of water requires it.
I use a dropper the other times.
Let's talk color.
Low water? Metalics? Smaller?
I did well in low clear water conditions with a K 13 Kwik.
Do you inject scent into the wrap?
Do you soak your sardines in anything prior?
What kind of elastic thread do you use?
How far from the boat?
I caught my fish the other day just feet from the boat!
What do you do with one that won't tune? Drove me crazy! No matter what I did it wouldn't tune!

J,
Dull the hooks and hang it on the Christmas tree or in a wreath for the door or boat. The wife put some plugs and a few other odds and ends from my junk fishing tackle cabinet in the shed on a wreath for the boat. Looked cool!

Another good trick is to use a jet diver hanging from a short dropper at the swivel above the leader.
A great set up for being able to switch between fishing rigs on a river for back trolling can be found here. http://www.sandysteelheaders.org/quick.html
You can switch from a cannonball dropper to a diver, kwikfish or spin&glo and eggs really quickly if you do a little prep ahead of time.

hey willie I would say alot of it depends on current and depth i have had great success over the years on the lower Rogue and Umpqua using no lead with a properly tuned k-15 or t-50 flat fish and small diameter main line(I run 30lb fireline) in water between say 5 to 9ft but in slower tidal water like the Siletz and Yaquina I will Run 40 inches of drop and 6 feet of leader in depths anywhere from 12 to 20 feet for fall salmon ,when your fishing the shallower depths watch your rod tip if your tip is working hard and then eases up for a bit then goes back to working this is in my opinion the perfect senerio your plug is in the zone watching the rod tip will tell you alot on what you need to do .

Thank you all for the response. When you do use weight, do you want it to bounce off the bottom or do you reel up a couple cranks once it hits bottom?

WW, I fish kwikies from my drift boat and the water condition determines the method. I was on the Trask yesterday and in the water that had a good current, say fast walking speed, I would flat line them. This is enough current to allow the plug to dive on it's own. In the slower current I was using a 24" dropper and dropping it to the bottom and leaving it there. This keeps the kwikie in the "meat" zone. I also like to use sardine wraps with scent. Some filets I soak overnight in egg cure juice and some I filet on the river. I also use various concoctions of scents to enhance the effect and to provide a nice scent trail   for the fish to follow to my kwikie  .

Setting up your kwikie's is also important. Check out the most recent STS mag which has some great info on this topic.

Good Luck!!
