Saturday Adventure
Mrs. Mission and I fished with ****** Saturday.
****** made the "call" as to where we were going, as my new 200 Merc has a sick sensor that happens to limit my rpm's to about 3800...so we took his boat.
We decided to hit Trask tidewater, and the Mrs. and I were happy to get out in someone elses boat.
We wanted to get one of the prime spots, so plans were made to hit the water EARLY. Hey...what the heck..I get up at 2:30 am to go to work anyway...no big deal.
To make a long story short...we slid the spotless blue Asaltor into the dark water of the Trask at...well...too dang early..but we DID get the spot.
We wondered why there wasn't any competition for this spot...especially as it got daylite, and there was no one to be found!!
Slow day...but we did get to boat one nice fish...I'd guess it to be 23-25 lbs...and loaded with sea lice. Sounds like it was the only one boated on the Trask Saturday, but I'm sure there may have been others.
So Rick...thanx for the opportunity to get another fish, and make another notch somewhere on that Asaltor for my fish!!
As a sidenote...we saw RT and Stew trolling by us...and we're not the least bit ****** they trolled through our "BOBBER" water. Good to see them. They had reported, if I remember correctly, 3 fish hooked, one being a huge coho...fin intact...and the fate of the other two..well I'm not sure.

Re: Saturday Adventure
Glad to see you caught a nice fish. Glad you could restrain yourself when "friends" troll through your "Bobber Water" too. It is a little different when it is your friends. You are actually glad to see them and chat with them.
Yet it is still not ok to do this as a general practice of fishing courtesy. Especially when there is a line of boats fishing that water and the "bobber boys" only have a short period of time to fish that water that way. The entire bay is out there folks just waiting for someone to troll it. Just respect those that choose to bobber fish during the changes in that area. Seems like a simple request. Especailly for folks that seem to be in the know such as all of us "i-fishers" on this board.
Just preaching to the choir I'm sure but I still believe the point is valid. The original delivery of the argument unfortunatly was tainted and uncalled for. That appology was delivered to this boards forum and to those that e-mailed me direct. Time to move on.
Again, nice fish.

Re: Saturday Adventure
Actually, the more experienced Fall bobber fisherman will tell you, now granted, unlike someone "burning" your steelhead or springer water (then you have a right to be ****** off,) right after a boat trolls slow through a hole WATCH YOUR BOBBER! cause' the odds sometimes go up that it will GO DOWN.
So, regardless of who is right or wrong, it was not some HUGE fishing sin and personal abuse of "your" bay. Reel in your dang bobber and throw it back out again after someone passes, again, it might just go down.
Many can attest to this.
Relax. Let's do move on.

Kind of reminds me of when I was little and my Mom made me say I was "sorry" to my sister.... so....I said ...."I am sorry".......And as soon as Mom was out of the room I say..."but I really don't mean it!"
Geeessshhh!

Re: Saturday Adventure
Actually Slutgoddess I did mean the appology sincerely. Just stating my point again. ******, I don't remember calling it my bay. It is everyones bay last time I checked. Again, trying to make a point of view to which I feel I have a right. Agree or disagree this is something we all do here on the board. I have seen what you have said happen ******. But it is usually with stealhead. It moves them out of their sleepy little hole they are in and down to where we can get at them. This can be a good thing agreed. I have to say, with chinook as an "inexperienced" bobber fisherman, ain't seen it happen yet...
I guess tidewater fishing is just different and I should stay home and watch Bill Dance Outdoors or something. Nope!!!! Going to keep trying and cringe a little when folks troll over the bobber water. But hey, "if" I get a fish on due to this tactic, and the troller is the cause, I will give him half the fish

Re: Saturday Adventure
C and E,
OK....Help me understand this. The bobber thing has grown a lot recently and it is showing up in many places that have for many years been trolled.
Is it your position that if someone stops and throws out a bobber that a troller is not welcome now?
I do my best to troll very wide of the bobber guys when there is room. I sometimes pull in the gear and pass and put it back out.
Are you telling me that there is a new "rule book" on this that says I must!
I think in tight areas....It would not hurt to pull the bobber in and toss it again ...behind the boat. What is the problem with this?
Always interested in learning courtesy on the pond.
Bill

Re: Saturday Adventure
Hi Bill, Slutgoddess. I have attempted to stay out of this, but feel I must try to help clarify a couple of things.
I was with Catch-n-Eat the day this happened. Although I obviously didn't feel as strongly about what happened as C-n-E did.
First off there were 5 or 6 boats "float" fishing the area Fishin Mission trolled through. The float fishermen were tied to old pier post about 20 feet from shore, casting toward shore. Fishin Mission trolled between the shore and the float fishermen. EVERY other boat trolling, including guides trolled by the opposite side the float fishermen were fishing. The float fishing basically takes place at slack tide, so it is maybe an hour to an hour and a half fishery. There is no doubt that this water can and is fished by trolling fishermen. It was just poor timing on Fishin Mission's part to troll through at a time others were float fishing. If people are bank fishing and I am pulling plugs in my boat, I take my plugs up and float through without fishing. Just makes sense that if everybody else is fishing a particular way in a particular area, that you either change your technique to match the people that were there first or move on to another area. I doubt Fishin Mission deliberatly meant to upset C-n-E, but in my opinion he was wrong to troll through at that time.
I may agree with C-n-E on it being wrong, but I didn't agree with the way he addressed it. I told him I thought that the name calling was dead wrong and he apologized on the board. He never apologized or said he was wrong about the incident, just the way he handled it.
I do not know Fishin Mission, but I am sure he is a good man, as is Bernie (C-n-E). I think they just got off on the wrong foot. I was sorry to see it come up again in this thread. Hopefully this will be the end of it
Troy

Re: Saturday Adventure
This is exactly my point Spooled. It is a limited time that we can offer a float to these bad boy nooks. It seems reasonable, yet there is no "rule book", to avoid an area where this technique is being used. I see it as no different than burning someones water on the the river. No rule books just courtesy is what I am implying here.
An example is this: 10 fisherman are drift fishing a pool. A float fisherman steps in between the five and begins fishing. Is this an acceptable senario? No. The courtesy should be to move on to an area that is accepting of this type of fishing. What is so hard to understand about that? No rule book, just courtesy. Thats all
Now, I am sure everyone here are great people and fun to be around. From the reports that I have read about Fishin Mission he is a stud fisherman and definitly catches fish. Kudos to you Mark. But folks it is time to move on.
Mark, I again appologize for my remarks that were directed at you. They were done out of anger and that was wrong. I hope that you can accept the appology at this time and move on without further bad blood between us. Nuff said?
Troy, I know you did not want to be involved in this but I do commend you for the support of the issue at hand. I believe you have a good grip on what I was trying to say here. Hopefully it will enlighten others to the aspect of a limited time option of bobber fishing in this area. You are first class my friend.
Thanks to all who have kept the anger level here to a minimum on this thread.

Re: Saturday Adventure
Hey C&E, I guess we shouldn't sweat it. Our catch ratio is over double of theirs!

Re: Saturday Adventure
Sorry I said anything. What does catch ratio have to do with anything in this thread? Anyone can catch fish in Eagle Creek

Re: Saturday Adventure
My turn...
Slutgoddess...you hit the nail on the head here.
This area always has been trolling water for me for the last 25 years or so, and of those 25 years, I've seen bobber guys fish it for about the last 6-7 . And we've all fished it together "harmoniously" for that time frame.
If someone wants to throw a bobber out in the water I'm trolling..I have no problem with it.
If someone wants to troll through the water I'm bobber fishing, it's no big deal.
There was some discussion prior about how bobbers can drop when someone trolls by. If Spooled and CatchandEat had noticed....there was a Black and White Alumaweld sled that was working that area pretty hard from the bank. Rick...were they hammerin' fish or what??
I fail to understand why Bernie thinks I should move and go somewhere else just so he can have exclusivity in one of my favorite spots, and will continue to dis-agree. Looks like we're both pretty stubborn individuals.
My point is...we can ALL fish there.
I'm sure we're all nice folks here...but we DO dis-agree, and CAN dis-agree on issues like this.
For the record...Yes...I trolled through CatchandEat's, and Spooled's
bobber water, but only because in that particular area it's been the norm for the last 6-7 years. I thought nothing of it. It was never a problem.
Those that know me, know that I am a considerate (probably more than the norm) fisherman, and would go out of my way to not offend anyone.
And....if "Catch statistics" would like to be discussed...I'm more than welcome to share mine.
Peace...and best of luck fishing to all of you.
Bernie...Apology accepted.
Mark

Re: Saturday Adventure
Uncle Bob I am definitly sure you are right about that although I am not sure about Tillamook this. I am sure they have done better than I here. Other areas I am confident we have Kicked Butt!!!!!   I mean major butt
Hey ******, I can take that Nixon thing two ways here. Hopefully it is the "I come in peace" version and not the "I am not a crook" deal. Certainly Nixon was not responsible for the cattle mutilations that spacemen are blamed for. I am guessing it is the peaceful version? Certainly you are not calling me a cow?
Peace to all.

Re: Saturday Adventure
Spooled, you are jealous, jealous, jealous. Just because you got lucky and got one Nook on a bobber makes you "all that"? I do fish where it does take skill and I do catch fish. Maybe your catch ratio would improve if you were not so "mean lookin". At least I have witnesses when I grand slam the fish. By the way Troy, you should hide that secret weapon of yours. (trebble hook with weight). The gammies don't like it.
Mark, we will just have to disagree on this one and move on. Just cannot support that idea even though folks have done it for years. We did witness the boat that was "parked" at the bank. The fisherman were walking along the bank with there bobbers. They did hammer the fish. Yet their boat was stationary. Thanks for accepting the appology.
Bernie
