RS-
If you think about it a boat is baby heaven. Slow rocking movement, low droaning sound of a motor on idle. The problem we had with ours was they sleep all day in the boat trolling around and are then up all night long.
STG covered the fitt well I had to look around alot till I found one that fit. Our youngest was 2 months old on her first boat rides and I finnally found one at joes of all places. On another note if you have a cuddy cabin with doors that close they do not have to have a jacket on while inside if I remember correctly. Check the rule book. This comes in handy when they get cranky or breastfeeding. It was imposible for my wife to feed with the babies life jacket on.
Take them out and have fun but be carefull out there.

I highly recomend the Mustang child's vest. It's red and yellow with a flotation collar and grab handle. I think they have them at Westmarine.

When my son was about two, I borrowed four or five different PDF's and tried them on him in a pool. The Mustang was the only one that consistantly turned him face up in the water.

They fit well and must be comfortable because my son likes to wear his even when he could take it off. Also very durable.

Regards,

Mark

Default PFD for young\'ins

At what age are PFDs available for children. My favorite daughter missed fishing this year due to meeting the nutritional neccessities of her first baby (born in April). How old should a child be to safely go out on a boat such as a 23' glassply?
I would appreciate anyones thoughts on or experience with this matter.

They have PFD's for infants you buy them by the babies weight. Just make sure it fits well. To test it put the child in the jacket and pick the jacket up by the shoulders. You should do this with any child in a life jacket. It won't do them any good if they slide out of it in the water. If the child slips down in the jacket it is too big. The biggest problem with infant jackets is the head roll that keeps the baby face up in the water. It's kind of a big pillow if the baby is in an infant seat. It can make them grumpy if they aren't comfortable so make the trips short until the baby is used to it.

Mark hit it on the head. Plus they are pretty good against the elements. But, it all depends on the size, weight, and fit. You can find them anywhere big water stuff is sold or check out Cabela's for specifications, etc.
