Their format is to do the stock presentation. They rely heavily on the fact that "we" only have 2 hours to limit the amount of questions although they are very polite about it.

There is a great deal of polish over a number of begging questions;
1) "95% of the 0-3 miles is not surveyed" but we want to recommend designated size and sites in the next 3 weeks.

2) "we are setting this aside to prepare for the unknown" ?!?!?!?

3) "these are recommendations" although at least 2 of the presenters had freudian slips that said "when we establish"

4) At least one of the heavy ******'s said "The governor is a liar" that was a highlight but probably not very helpful.

5) They acknowledge that they do not have data to support their position that these areas MUST be set-aside for study. That is, the studies could occur through other means. More spotters on *******, send some out of work ******* out with funding to study was one good suggestion.

6) They have a 5 question format they want answered in writing by the group at the END so don't leave early.

EdSr, was there and he can provide more input, I gotta get back to work...good luck Ha_k....

The meeting was well attended by very knowledgable people including many commercial fishermen with years of experience. There were about 100+ attending

This was to be a gathering where communities have a chance for input about reserves in general and to suggest places for a reserve. Seagrant was the lead organization with OPAC and OR state agencies also participating. Although discussion was limited by time and people were asked to respond to five questions asked by the panel, some questions and opinions outside of the canned questions did occur.

My impression was that most people attending were opposed or very reluctant about establishing any closure.
Some of the questions asked by people attending:
1.How is this to be funded?
2.How big are these reserves to be?
3.How can any rational judgement be made without any baseline of scientific data (only 5% of the bottom has been mapped).
4. Aren't the closed areas already in place sufficient?
5. Will these reserves be sunsetted?
6. Why do we need these anyway?
7. How come up to 10 areas, why not one or two areas and then judge about establishing more?

Other people attending can add things I have missed.
