Default Winter weather forecast

The National Weather Service has released it's forecast for the winter. They expect a wet winter, but are not clear on whether it will be colder or warmer than usual. Check THIS LINK for details.

So far so good. October was the start of the new water year and we ended up right on track. Yay rain!

The map indicates an "Equal Chance" re; temperature and precipation. But thats better than last year, definitely wetter. After our state's climatologist's errant call last winter I am deeply suspecious of longer range forecasts.Pray for rain.

Good link Pete. The "Fact sheet" on "Climate factors..." at the bottom of that page is an interesting look at climate prediction.
Looks like they have to rely more on month to month climatology than long-range models for our region this coming season. Our last cold event was '89, so we are past do for another cold event.

On a personal note, I would love to have iced rod guides with a small ice crust streamside that melts by noon. Drifting under snow crusted fir bows with clear blue skies and a slight east blow. Now that's winter steelie fishin' for this boy.

We must be getting to the end of Fall fishing if I'm dreaming about winter fishing.
