Default Capturing the essence.... of why we fish.

http://www.ifish.net/gfx/novsolitude.jpg

I'm not going to put this image in the post, but you can click on it to see.
This picture pretty much captures the feeling of why I fish alone.
Why I love the late fall.
Why I love the Kilchis river canyon.
I have no clue who this angler is, but I had to capture this moment, this feeling.
Wonder what he was thinking? "Gosh, wish I was home with the wife and kids?" NOT! "Gosh, I could be getting the lawn mowed?" NOT!
It's now my desktop wallpaper.
It makes me happy, takes my mind off of current affairs.
When I can't be on the river, I see it.
I took this picture today, while sitting in the drift boat, just before dark.
It was looking into the sun, breaking all rules. It was a risk, either it worked or it didn't.
I think it did!
Jen

This makes me think of a Quote:

"I am haunted by water."
A River Runs Through it.

It is interesting how the flow of water has defined a lot of our lives. It has been always the one place I feel closest to the earth. You can almost feel its flowing healing touch slip over you and make you one with its essence.

If anyone knows who this is, I'd love to print them out a copy...
They need to have it.

Don't I wish it were me!!
That would be neat to find a pic like that of yourself, rather than with an emu like RT

Haunted is the right word. A picture almost does it. Nice shot Jen!

What haunts the water addled person is the sound. You can hear the rocks rolling to the sea. The river is talking to you ..........

You think there is actually "luck" involved if you go to gamble to win? Thanks to the NFL, most of my books at school were paid for, and it wasn't luck. Also Wednesday night Carribbean stud poker, and then the daily sega college football tournament pool.....lol

Here is essence and fishing:

"I fish, therefore I am."

Nice pic Jen

This truly illustrates the solitude and beauty people can experience here at times. This is the image I share with my children and why I like to take them fishing. It's definately worth the time together to impress an attitude that is wholesome and refreshing from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Thanks for sharing

How about a picture contest instead of the "ready-set-go" contest. You could have a theme and have folks submit their entry and you could appointment a non-biased committee (you & Bill  ) to judge a winner! What do ya think

For me fishing is a great way to get away from all the proplems,we face everday. It seems like no matter how bad your day or week was when you get on the water and get into what your doing all your proplems or worry go away for awhile and you can recharge your batteries and its good for your soul thats also the reason I DON"T FISH ON WEEKENDS !!!,now that I'm retired and have lots of time to worry (not) I go fishing all the time   I'm so recharged my wife can't stand to have me around and MAKES go fishing again. YES!!!! Funny how that works  .Really tho fishing is good for the soul and it is relaxing to be out in nature and breathing good air and just being there.

In the past I have told people that I thought that fishing has an attraction similar to gambling - only more addictive because, unlike gambling, the individual's skill can have a very real effect on the outcome. Although no amount of skill can remove the very real possibility of "losing".

I came across this quote which eloquently conveys this idea:

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

- John Buchan, Lord Tweedsmuir

30+ years ago when I was in college, my wife used to chase me out of the house once a week in the warm months (I went to school in Utah). She calls it my "mental enema".
