Default Non Fishing Related - Which Satellite?

This topic has nothing to do with fishing... well maybe it does if the outdoor channel is on. But, this is the way I figured I could reach a mass majority of people. All we have is regular 7 or 8 channel tv; it's so pathetic I don't even know how many channels we get. Cable is not an option for us, so we have been looking into a satellite company. I want to hear any reviews good or bad of any companies, and if we should be leaning towards one or another. Thanks.

Matt, I can't speak for the little "toy" satellite dishes that are so popular these days but I'm sure someone out there will help on that one.
I have a standard C-band 9 foot dish and watch the outdoor channel on G9-24 all the time. Of course there are another couple of hundred channels of "stuff" available also. The cost of my unit was far more than $100 or so which is what you can get the little ones for. Mine is long paid for, so I only pay for my yearly subscribtion for all the pay-to-view channels. One thing to consider is that with a C-band, I can also add a converter to get to K-band (more channels) and/or add a digital to get almost twice the channels I do now.
I guess you could look at it as either getting a Humminbird or a Lowrance fish finder. One will show the bottom while the other one can take you way beyond just seeing the basic bottom.
Hope this helps.

Accidentally posted twice, just cleaned out the second one since I can't delete it.[ 11-03-2001: Message edited by: Trout, myster ]

RDL,
I have dish Network to get my tv fishing fix. I have been very happy with the setup they offer. Keep in mind dish network has a offer under review to buy USB networks and this would make dish network the largest US player in the sat market. Half the time the Outdoor channel is the only thing that gets me through the dry spells of my sporting life.
Enjoy!

Also very happy with Dish network. My large 9' c-band dish was a pain in the posterior.

I think there was an ad in today's Oregonian for free DTV including installation.

I have the Dish and like it. It is easy to use and somewhat cheaper than DirecTV. My neighbor has direcTV and I tried to help her record with the system and could not figure it out. With the Dish network it is very easy to record. The main thing Dish does not have is the Sunday ticket for NFL games. If you are not an NFL junkie I think Dish is the way to go.

I have had dishnet and now have direct TV. Look at who is offering the best deal. I kinda P.O.'d at dishnet when they went with there new satellite and tried to force me into getting it by cancelling one of my favorite channels. So I jsut went to direct TV instead. I have a dishnet but its for the old Sat. and basically worthless.
