Re: Bobber Fishing Etiquette
Depends on where you are I suppose. Where we fish, everyone ties parallel, right next to the bank. Everyone ties to each other or limbs/structures at the ends, to keep any anchors and ropes out of the water. This leaves the entire hole and drift free for everyone to run or place their bobbers virtually anywhere in the hole, unless a bunch of straight lines are on the bottom and this tends to change things. If you straight line, don't cast all the way to the other bank. Fish straight in front of your boat.
EVERYONE reels up fast in the tight quarters it is when a fish is on (should be obvious), until the fish is under control. One on one brawling at close quarters. Typical of Trask and Wilson upper tidewater boat spots. You need to rig for Bear and keep them under control, which is not always possible either.
Actually a pretty friendly deal. Leave each other some room and don't chew the boat up next to you. Pro-snaggers try and change this, but they usually lose by peer pressure in my regular spots.
This could start yet another totally unrelated discussion, but turn your fish finders off. I swear the constant sonar pinging keeps the fish nervous and moves them out of the hole. An opinion obviously, but an experienced opinion.
These areas are NO WAKE zones. Don't give anyone any ammo for outlawing motors.
