Out riggers help
I went to England’s on Sunday and they had a set of out riggers that was telescopic looked to be just the way to add out riggers to a smaller boat like my 21” Sea Hauk but thought I might run it past some other guy and see what you might think so how about some input? Do any of you guys use them on your boats and do they work

Re: Out riggers help
I havent used them personally, but have read that the Taco telescopic outriggers work just fine. I would think for a trailer boat they would be perfect since they are easy to take off and store. The non-telescopic arent nearly as easy to remove and breaking them down each time would be a hassle.

I use mime religiously, 15/1/2 foot Taco with Sport slam bases.Last year we ran 6 rods and 2 handlines. As i remember about 1 in 3 fish came on these outside jigs furthest back. Ive had some old salts tell me the propwash and teaser combo gets the fish lookig and moving upward and sometimes they just arrive in striking range when your last outside lure is present. Also this outside trolling lane is always clean.

Re: Out riggers help
I just got mine from Cabelas. Haven't had time to install it yet. It came out to $883. It was $815 before tax. I live in Olympia and had it shipped to the store here. When it came, I got an email and picked it up.

Re: Out riggers help
We use the 15ft tele. taco's. They work great. I'll second the opinion on the Halock pulleys, they are great(no creepin). Easy to use, easy to install, easy to take off. Another thing not to skimp on is your releases, get the best ones you can.

Re: Out riggers help
Yes what everyone said....cautionary note. Do not waste your money on Knock offs...like Tigress and West Marines own brand. These are made in China and will self distruct on you before you even get to the Tuna Grounds. Don't ask me how I know, or how much it cost me to replace.
Taco, Lee and Rupp are all very dependable an will pay dividends on your investment (bigger spread...more hookups)

Re: Out riggers help
Any trouble with the detent pin, which holds the arms extended when your trolling? I've seen some Taco's with a detent pins that released awfully easy...trolling daisy chains or archer bars in "busy" sea state.

Re: Out riggers help
Those are tacos in the picture and they are the same I have on my boat. They work great. Just make sure the release is set low enough to release during a sytrike and high enough not to let go prematurely. If they dont let go it gets kind of scary on the boat as the captain starts yelling and crying watching them expensive riggers bend much more than they should!

That must look like $900.00 going around and around in the toilet bowl that’s what I’m worried about so they will brake of if not set up right I was worried about a wave hitting them and bending them

Re: Out riggers help
Yep dont have them set that low. We gauge the angle of the riggers to the "state" of the sea! Have now and again taken them down and just fished with the gunnel rods because the water was too rough!

Hey duckie have you decided where to mount these on your OS.I too have a NROS26,Imounted them just behind the point where the rear wall of the cabin meets the roof on the roof.I did feel the need to reinforce under the roof so i fabricated an aluminum " Knee brace type bracket ,powdercoated looks nice and no flex visible. If you want I can take a picture and show you. scott Armstrong

Re: Out riggers help
Sarmstrong, I haven't figured out where to mount. Would like to see a pic of the additional reinforcement. That'd be great thanks!
Stream, I got the Taco Sport Slam kit and it came with everything you need including the rigging. Although, I will probably upgrade the rigging.

Check out Pompanette. We have had ours for 11 years and they are great. Very solid product and easily stored.

Re: Out riggers help
I have had threee brands-those tele tacos everyone above speaks about-they are fine for your setup. A pair of Tigress non- teles-pure garbage as noted at above post. Now have the Lees extra strong non-telescoping-really like them-I have taco grand slam mounts on the t-top. Mark
