Help with digi camera batts!
So I have been spending alot of time up on the mountain snowboarding and such but am having a really tough time keeping batteries in my camera! No, they don't fall out when I crash!! I seem to only be getting about 10 pictures out of a set when I am up there. I have tried all different kinds and am really starting to get frustrated! Anyone have any ideas on how I can keep my batteries alive while I am in the cold? Thanks for any help!
Ben

Re: Help with digi camera batts!
Try the lithium versions if available. They withstand the lower temps a little better.

Re: Help with digi camera batts!
The NiMH rechargeables I use seem to be quite sensitive to the cold, but I've found that if you just warm them back up they keep on working like nothing happened.
Then as far as preventing them from getting cold in the first place I keep the camera tucked into my jacket between taking shots, and my body heat seems to keep them acceptably warm.

I use Energizer lithiums. I'd be surprised if I get less than 500 pictures out of a set, as opposed to the 50 or so I was getting out of alkaline. They cost a little more, but last a LOT longer. They are definitely worth the cost.

I use Energizer lithiums also, they take a ton of pictures.

Re: Help with digi camera batts!
All batteries suffer performance degradation at cold temperatures. Some more than others. Your best option is to keep the camera as close to your body as possible. So, don't keep the camera in an outside pocket of your parka. Instead, keep it in an inside pocket. If you are wearing multiple layers, keep it in the layer closest to your body that has pockets. I have a small digital camera that works great, until the temp gets down in the mid 30's. Then I'm Lucky to get 10 pictures. I found that by keeping it somewhat warm I can get a lot more pictures.

Re: Help with digi camera batts!
Thanks for the help, I just didn't go prepared this time. I usually use the Lithium batteries but mine died right off the bat and all they sold were alkaline in the gift shop! I know, next time go prepared!! I tried to keep my camera inside my parka for the most part but it was still a little chilly in there!! The camera is a Panasonic that I picked up for fairly cheap, it takes pretty good pictures though!! I did manage to get one good shot!
