Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
GOT2FISH- The needle looking thing is a peice or spinner wire that is jammed down through the prawn to help secure it. Some people use toothpics also, but this IMHO is the best method because it is all tied together. Thanks for the pictorial ******!

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
You want to see a lifeless, dyed, naked prawn skewered through the length of its body with wire hanging from steel barbed hooks? You sicko!
Ya know --- even prawns have mothers. :depressed:

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
Rick, thanks for posting the picture and providing the information.
Forget what these guys say about wanting to see a pic with a prawn....I'd rather see how you hook up the bear on that rig. Is white the prefered color, or do you go with other colors depending on the bite?

I need a pic with a prawn on it, too! You can use the Momma prawn, I don't care!
I want to be ready this year, and if I have one of these all rigged up, Bill would really be impressed! I want to show him a thing or two, for once!!!
Please, Nan?

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
When I opened this thread I just knew Jennie would be more interested in the bear than the rig. I'd bet she is still crying about that little brown bear that went to the kids christmas before last.
Jennie you're a sucker for a cute bear! But that's OK.

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
Is the piece of spinner wire simply attached by forming an eye and then threading the line through the eye? If you are impaling the shrimp on the wire it would make a kink in the line as wire would not sit at 90° where it would naturally lie but is pressed to run parallel to the line.
Do you put a 90° bend in the wire near the eye to get it to run parallel to the line?
Thanks for the description.

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
You the man ******! I made this one from the descriptions you posted last year. Caught my first fish last year on it !(see below) I then gave it to my brother and he nailed one with it tooo. I managed two more from the bank at Meldrum bar using a float to keep it up off the bottom. Folks these work!

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
Tell you a little secret. These ****** things start working in the Columbia and Willamette in February with springers, then work equally well in the late spring and summer for summer chinook and steelhead (they crush them!!), and will also catch more than their share of fall chinook and silvers. Truly a three season set-up for the big rivers.
For the summer when B-steelies are in the Columbia I scale back the hook sizes to #6 treble on the end (Owners of course) and 1/0 Owner front hook. I also drop way down to 12 pound line in May, as I am convinced that the big steelies are more line-shy than the stupid springers.

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
Sorry for being a wing-nut - I couldn't find my regs, but I thought it was 3 hooks/points max? Can someone tell me what section talks about allowing the 3/1 on this rig or the 2 trebles that come on the Kwikfish?
Thanks

Re: Prawn Spinner Illustrated
Joby, it says in there somewhere that trebles count as one hook. In the first few pages.
