Default John Day @ Phillipi

Fished the John Day at Phillipi Park today without any success. I saw one steelhead caught, which appeared to be about 15 lbs. There were fish jumpimg all over near the park and several looked like large, bright Chinooks. The weather was wet and cold but at least there wasn't any wind.

Sandy...You sound eager! As you know this is one of my favorite places to fish....even when there are no fish! It is just an awsome place to spend a day or a weekend....Except for those wind storms that seem to happen when you want to run back to the ramp!

I think it is still early. Seems like the best fishing I remember is Thanksgiving and later....even into January if the river does not get high and mud things up.

Would be nice to here its worth the drive a little early this year!

Bill

Sandy,
No, there was only 3 other boats fishing besides my boat. I fished a red Fire Tiger Wiggle Wart most of the day, although I switched out to flame orange Hot Shot after seeing the one steelhead caugt on the Hot Shot. THe water was still warm and had large clumps of algae or moss floating in it. We fished from the boat launch up to the park and spent most of our time at the park. I never made it out in the Columbia before I left.
