Default Pain is my friend

Last night my wife asked me for some help in her storage unit. Apparently there had been a leak on an upper floor and water had ran down to the lower units and soaked the floor. Luckily nothing was damaged, but in an attempt to keep from having any problems in the future, we decided to put pallets down on the floor and stack the boxes on top of them.
It seemed like such a good plan at first.
I grabbed a couple of unused pallets from work and we went and emptied the unit, layed the pallets and started refilling it. About 2/3 of the way thru, I stepped on one of the boards and it snapped and I came down on my ancle at a bad angle. Oh look at the stars
First was the pain, then the lightheadedness, the sick to the stomach feeling and instant swelling. I'm sure I said a few choice words but I don't remember. My wife looked at me and said I was white as a ghost.
"Gee, thanks, I'm glad you find this humorous"
About 15 minutes later I was able to help refilling the storage unit and we headed home. A couple ibuprofen and an ice pack while I watched "Deal or No Deal"
Today my ancle is swelled to the size of a softball and I walk like Festus but I am walking so that's a plus.
I've had bad ancles since I was a kid, broken the right one twice, so this isn't anything new for me it's just that as I get older, they take longer to heal, and they seem to hurt more when I turn them, or maybe I'm just getting soft.

Been there done that many times. I play lots of racquetball and I have to play with braces now. Last time was at the Denver Airport, stars, ears were ringing, sick to my stomach, I may have blacked out cause I don't remember the moments right after it happened.

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation - good luck

R.I.C.E. is your friend! I too have had many ankle problems. I wear a brace on each ankle when playing basketball.

I sprained my ankle blocking a volleyball spike just before Thanksgiving 2006 when I came down on the foot of the guy who I had just blocked. I crumbled and ended up on his side of the net. All he could say was "You're on my side of the net, so I get the point".

I left the court under my own power and headed for home. On the way home I stopped at the local Walgreen's to get a brace and bandage. Of course they were at the far corner of the store, so I limped along painfully as I retrieved both products and made it back to the checkout stand. The clerk asked me "So, how are you today?", to which I replied "You just watched me limp slowly across the store and back without offering help. I'm in obvious pain. How do you think I'm doing?" He then went into how his car had broken down on the way to work and how he had to deal with that whole thing. I couldn't believe it. He was actually trying to have a "Bad Day Contest" with me.

Trust me, I feel your pain.

It's probably a sprain which is very painful. There is a chance you broke something. Might be good to get it X-Rayed

same story. different verse. but all said and done I actually rolled my ankle for the 83rd time and... broke the end of my tib/fib... go get it x-rayed to make sure you didn't damage the ends of your leg bones... seriously... go get it checked to make sure it's just a sprain. I was a cowboy and I'm stil paying the price for not getting the damaged tib/fib adressed for 2 days...
