Default Diesel mechanic

A friend of mine needs to have the 90,000 mile service done on her diesel truck. The mechanic that she has it with now is quoting $2,000 for who knows how much stuff.

For you diesel folks, does this sound even remotely realistic? Can anyone recommend a good diesel mechanic in the Milwaukie area?

All I know is "90,000 mile service". Change belts, change fluids and filters, service transmission and transfer case, etc. You know, tune up kind of stuff. She did say that they hadn't found anything wrong with it and this was more along the lines of regular/preventative maintenance. $2k seemed awfully high for a tuneup.

Year and make would help a bit. And it might be easier to ask at another shop for a quote on the same services, then they'll know if the price is normal.

Why PM? This is a good discussion. I have a 2001 Dodge and I'm always interested in hearing stuff on diesels.

Thanks!
