Default what to do with all this salmon

Well be going to sledders secret spot and I can see why it is a secret spot. But in the three trips to that honey hole this last week we have packed out and I mean packed. Here is what we got

Day number 1, 2 of us fishing 30#, 32#, 38#, no camera

Day number 2, 4 of us fishing this time 25#, 30# hen, 30#, 31# hen, 32# hen, 32# hen, 33#, 35# this time we where smarter we come down there with pack boards still no camera sitting on my kitchen counter.

Day number #3 3 of us fishing 27 # hen, 29#, 30#, 30#, 36# hen, 40# still no camera.

For a total in three trips 17 fish kept and I don’t know how many released or how many hook ups we had.

Man I can’t remember the last time I was in to so many fish on a river . Well we will be going back to that spot later this week and this time I will carry a camera down to get a few photos of these fish. Oh and a word of advise if you go fishing with Sledder and he says we will be taking this ridge line down to the river He means down. A long way down so I hope you are in really good shape. Cause the guy that went with us yesterday barely made it out. But it is well worth the trip in.

Oh and I wont talk about what happens when you take a wrong turn going down in the dark to that river.

Sounds like a wonderful place....if you're a billy goat.. I would of asked "what river" if I was in the shape I was when in my younger years!
I made alot of those kind of hikes for a fish in my past too. Too old for that stuff now. Love to hear about your escapades though

Ever heard of catch and release? I guess all those fish would be better off in your freezer than in the river doing there thing.

Hey rhuber

I do believe in catch and release I know for a fact that we released far more fish then we kept. Lets ask the question of how many people on this board ran done to buy a second salmon tag when that was announced. So they could file it up with fin clip fish so that they still had there first tag to fill up with none fin clipped fish or steelhead well I didn’t and my tag has both fin clipped and none fin clipped on it.

I removed the last sentence since it was not fishing related

Yes Alwayze fishin, Take a camera with you and take lots of pictures. Take picture of the beautiful scenery. Where you start your climb into the hole... stuff like that. You can't blame a guy for trying. Don

Sounds like a great day!

You know it's a good experience when:
1) You question your sanity on the way in.
2) You have a great day and privacy when you're there.
3) You curse yourself and the "idiot" who got you into this (as you only stop to gasp for a breath), on the way out.
4) Swear that when and if you get out with your catch, you'll never do this again.
5) 10 minutes into the ride home, after finally catching your breath, you are planning a date to do it all over again!

Too cool!

Sledder,

I just came up with a great idea. You take me fishing to this "Honey Hole" spot and I pack out the fish. I promise I wouldn't tell a soul where it is.

Hey Sledder, I think this would be a great opportunity to make a new friend.(ME) I'd be willing to show you some of my secret spots. I don't litter and my sweat doesn't stink (ok I don't litter anyway) I know what to do with all that extra fish. (SMOKE IT!!!)and yes I'd bring plenty of samples with me. I won't tell. I can also fish mid-week. I have my own "special eggs".I'd share....

Birdsnest, Can you carry 180lbs. (3 guys fishing 2 fish ea. 30lb per fish, if you are lucky, they do get much bigger) of fish up steep hills over slippery rocks? I am just kidding I wouldn't ask anybody to carry everybodys fish.

I on one hand agree why not practice catch and release if you don't need any more fish there is nothing wrong with 100%catch and release..
However if these are hatchery fish it doesn't matter one bit bonk as many as you want. Giving salmon to friends and neighbors os almost as much of a northwest tradition as fishing for salmon is.

With the shoprt lifespan of salmon it's unlikely that the fish you catch will offer sport to other anglers so keep it and give it to the guy who lives across the street.. You know that guy who you have never talked to before??

steelhead maybe a little different story but not by much.

If you go with me you need to be somewhat familiar with your own sweat. I hate crowds and will go to you know where to get away from them. The peace, tranqulity, elk and fish are well worth the extra work. No litter, no fishing line to trip over, no cussing, yelling. Just you your buddies and your sore arms and back from all the fish catching and packing. What a trip all three of them. Lets watch the weather and continue filling freezers.

Sledder you better watch your rear view mirror. You will probably have half the board following you if you get spotted early in the am heading to your spot.
