I called last week and it depends on the metal. It was .30lb for lead. $1.30 lb for brass. The place I called didn't deal with steel. I also learned the metals need to be sorted by type and the minimum is one pound.
I can't remember the name I just randomly called one out of the yellow pages.
I took in some #1 and #2 CLEAN copper and got $2.90 ans $2.70lb. a few weeks back. Almost got that 50" LCD paid for.
