Sheds (pic)
Hey,
I've been really busy this last couple of weeks administering a tree planting contract for the property that I work on. We have been planting close to 10k douglas fir seedlings per day and it has been tiring. Long days, short nights, and some deer sheds to throw into the mix. We have been planting a lot of these . . . . . . .
100 trees per bag. Big Big trees. Lots of fun to unload and carry down a hillside.
With a few of these thrown in to the planting units.
Definately the deer are dropping their horns where I'm at. I think that three of these sheds were from last year, but all of the others are from pretty recently.
Enjoy,
TB

Re: Sheds (pic)
Nice haul! Our planting crews have been finding a bunch too, but nothing fresh. Looks like we're not the only company that plants 3 footers in the ground
Crazy you're getting 100 to a bag; I think we only put 60 to a bag and the planters complain about that!
Thanks for sharing and congrats on the horns; I'd agree that 3 are from last year and the rest are FRESH!

Re: Sheds (pic)
Looks like you may have some sheds from the same deer as well.
Most deer are still packin over here and I saw a group of about 15 branch bulls that were still packin. Might just be the best season I have ever experienced. The last two years I have had knee surgery on spring break, so this year I am gonna go ALOT!!!!!!!!!

Re: Sheds (pic)
Yep, looks liek a matched set.
It also looks like you could start with the smallest and say they were all successive years from the same buck and get away with it.
Pretty cool how similar they all are.

One of the sets is a match set. Found about ten feet apart on the edge of a timber.

Re: Sheds (pic)
All of the sheds that I have found while working have come from either the Corvallis area, or the Mist, Vernonia area. Lots of deer in the Corvallis area, and fewer elk in the mist Vernonia part of our tree farm.

Re: Sheds (pic)
April Fools Day has always been the time over east that is solid for looking. OBVIOUSLY before is good too!
But that is a good rule of thumb to go by.
Nice finds TB!
