Thanks for the rockfish tip in newport
First pic is todays bounty for the 4 of us.
Second pic is looking off my bow West around 2:30 this afternoon
Just wanted to say thanks to the guy who got out of his car and pointed us towards some fish today on the South jetty at Newport. My good fishin partner and I decided to take our wife's sturgeon fishing at Toledo. Fished for about 3 hours with not even a hint of a sturge. We decided to head out to the fingers to try throwing grubs into the rocks. Fished from the second finger out to about even with the hump. Nothing but a couple of snags. We were about ready to bag it when a nice gent got out of his car and told us to anchor off the end of the rock finger he was pointing at and fish with sand shrimp. We thanked him and decided to give it a try. After a few minutes of investigating the underwater structure we anchored and dropped lines. About 30 seconds later I had something huge double over my rod, shake and run. Broke my 12# leader. Excitement started to build in the boat. Couple of baits later I boated a nice black. My wife caught her first perch shortly later. We ended up boating 10 fish and releasing 1 13" Cabazon. Great day all around and the weather was pretty nice. Thanks again for the tip if you read ifish!

The ocean didn't look too bad, but I kept an eye on the swells coming in and there was a few big boomers crashing over the end of the North jetty. Way to big for my 16.5' starcraft. I don't recall any non commercial looking boats heading out while we were there. MountainBeaver called me and said that he was watching us from up by the bridge and said the ocean looked a bit rough.

That's too bad. It's what salmon wish they could give you when they jump.
There are some rocky structures that extend out from the south jetty in newport, they are sometimes exposed, sometimes submerged, but frequently referred to as finger jetties or just fingers.

Though they do not have fingers, I've always felt that they were. Mocking me , showing me that there are fish in the water. Thanks for the answer.
