Default Cougar on Cooper Mountain????

My wife was talking to some people that live up on Cooper Mountain (The one by Beaverton/Aloha area) and they said that they have seen some cougars up there. Any one else ever hear about cats that close in?

About a year and a half ago, some friends of ours that live just East of the first station on 175th, put in a bunch of landscaping. Something killed of some of their new expensive trees and they called a field biologist out to determine what type of animal it was and how how to prevent it from doing more damage. The biologist told them it was a cougar. I live in that area and while I see deer all the time, I've not seen a cougar track.

We live in the area, on 'couple of acres. 'Never saw one nor any sign. But, frankly, I would be surprised if they're not around. Don

Not used to people yet?
You've got to be kidding me! Sure they're not in the neighborhoods yet but anything semi rural with deer and elk and they're set. ODFW was after one a few years ago up on Cornelius Pass by the school. And with large home ranges and our soils doesn't mean that not seeing tracks in a small area doesn't mean that they're there.

For anecdotal stories in different areas. I have friends in SW OR that have had cougars looking in lviving room windows and cleaning out the house kitties in neighborhoods.

Just don't panick though just be aware.

I don't think they live here, but they may pass through. It was only a few years ago that a Tri-Met bus hit and killed a 6pt bull on Murray.

I don't know why there wouldn't be cougar there. They like to eat the happy meals that the burb homes provide for them in the winter, cats and small dogs. There have been cougars down near town in Newberg. A cougar and her cubs spent a few months one year with in a half mile of town. If more people had known it they probably would have freaked out.

If you have a decent travel corridor, i.e. creek, river, greenway, you will have them on occasion.
