Default North Santiam low flows start today

Army Engineers plan for 1300 cfs discharge (at Niagara) from today until the next major storm. Detroit Lake needs to fill up, so low flows will continue until that happens. We can plan excellent river levels for fishing the North Santiam, and lots of winter steelhead (all native) and a few summer steelhead (hatchery) are arriving daily. Although there are more steelhead in the North Santiam, the South is also fishing very well.

Yesterday, it was 1920 cfs, and today it is 1300. This is a much better level for fishing. There have been numerous large winter steelhead caught in the last week, and conditions are better now than then. If we are persistent, we will get them.

Did you see the picture of the nice Santiam native today posted by stickflicker? It's a beauty, and was evidently caught yesterday. The fish will get used to the new level tonight, and the bite should be better after tomorrow.
You're welcome!

Bill, is the log jam below Shelburn still clear? Just been wondering since the last big water we had.

We didn't hook any on plugs today on the main Santiam. 43 degree water in the morning and 44 degree water in the afternoon.
It was very nice to meet fellow Ifishers Willierower and Uncle Roman who introduced themselves and helped us shake our skunk with professional advice and demonstrated flawless fishing excellence.
A beautiful day on the river  Fish are safe with me around

JD,

It was nice to finally meet you in person. That boat of yours sure sounds healthy.

Give it another couple weeks and there will be a ton more fish to be had. We didnt pick up anymore after we saw you.

I hope the fish are used to it in about 30 minutes to an hour. I'm heading to Jefferson right now, I'll report when I get back.
