New Mini 14 Target
So you all think Ruger finally got it right with the Mini 14 Target or are they just trying to polish a turd. They have never been accurate or in my experience with them even close to accurate but they say they have done a lot of work on them they sure look nice rp

I bet HuntnFish will have the skinny on it. Maybe they got some help from him. Funny Ryan, your colorful phrase was exactly what came to mind when I read the title of the thread.

Re: New Mini 14 Target
the mini 14 works for what it was designed for, then ruger put scope mounts on it. raising accuracy expectations. i look at the mini 14 as a urban defence rifle, 3" 75yd groups is plenty accurate. light, fast and go's bang when you pull the trigger. it was not designed to be a target rifle. that is why it is called a MINI 14.

No, they ignored everything I suggested. And no I haven't been brave enought to shell out 6-8 bills to find out. They make a big deal about all the improvement in tolerances that they've made to the gas block and op-rod, but in fact IMO that is not where it's problems lie.
It's problems lie in the fact that one, the barrel is too thin, and what barrel they do put on is like a $10 sub-contractor barrel worth about as much Q-control as $10 will buy you. That's a lot of the reason why you see some guys say mine shoots fine and other who see pie-plate accuracy. And of course the stock bedding is also a huge factor and I don't think they've even addressed that.
IMO......save your money and buy a good AR. If you have mucho $$ and decide to buy one, then let me know...I'd like to put one of my personal Mini's up against it. Don't get me wrong, you can get a stock Mini to shoot OK (near moa), but you have to address a few of it's mechanical issues first. I personally don't think they addressed the RIGHT ones.
Hunt'nFish
But this is just my opinion....go to Perfectunion.com and read what guys who have bought them are saying.

Re: New Mini 14 Target
My experience with the old ones was I could shoot a tighter group at 100 yds with an AR than I could ar 25 yds with the Mini 14.
I hope they improved it!

Re: New Mini 14 Target
So WHO can tell us the "real" story of the Mini 14?
Here are the original versions that Bill Ruger had intended to make some big sales $$$ off of.
While it might be possible to "Accurize" something like this, it seems like, looking at its original intended design, it would be akin to making a "National Match" M2 Carbine.
Hasn't "Chief A.J." worked on these things (Mini 14s) a bunch?

Re: New Mini 14 Target
I used to own one of the standard type back several years.
It had "Minute of Man" accuracy. I'm pretty sure that was the design goal.
I always thought the problems were poor quality controll/tolerances, and the way the whippy barrel is mounted in the big chunk of steel at the forend. Looks like they added an adjustable harmonic ballance to try and offset the poor harmonics created by the whippy barrel in the big steel block.
Seems like a work around rather than a fix.
