Thumbs down Pistol and pistol ammo registration/ban coming to WA!

Quote:
HB 3359 – Concerning pistol ammunition.

Under this bill, stores that sell handgun ammunition must report the following to DOL:

(a) The date of the transaction;

(b) The name and date of birth of the purchaser or transferee of the pistol ammunition;

(c) The driver's license number or other government-issued identification card number of the purchaser or transferee of the pistol ammunition;

(d) The unique alphanumeric identifier of all pistol ammunition transferred to the purchaser or transferee; and

(e) Other information that the department of licensing determines is necessary.

None of this is good but the last clause looks really scary! This could easily become a backdoor ban on pistol ammunition in WA!

Wow, that's smelling similar to the Illinois FOID program, The Firearm Owner's Identification.
"In 1968, Illinois enacted legislation to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by providing a system of identifying persons who are not qualified to acquire or possess firearms and firearm ammunition within the State of Illinois. The Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) Act established a practical and workable system to identify persons prohibited by Section 24-3.1 of the "Criminal Code of 1961" as amended, from acquiring or possessing firearms and firearm ammunition. The Illinois State Police was given the responsibility of administering the Act."

We worry too much. This bill will die in the Senate, if it ever makes it that far. Bills get introduced all the time, many of them as stupid as this one, and all they serve to do is let the sponsor tell his constituents that "at least I tried...."

Betcha it don't fly.

If it does I will be buying some ammo in Oregon or elsewhere! Course I have so much now that I dont think I will ever shoot it all. Have a tendancy to buy by the case!

I agree, beware, it always starts out with statements like "there's just not enough support for this NOW........" or "this is a good first step".
