Petzold asks - Why is everyone so grumpy? - Good Q.
Ryan posted that thread on the other BB and asks why everyone has been more grumpy on the fishing BBs lately. It's a good topic. His conjecture is that it has a lot to do with Sept. 11. I agree - but there are more reasons and it goes further than just the BBs. I replied:
You are astute in both your observations and logic Ryan. It has not only been on the fishing BBs, it has creeped in everywhere. The stress of 9/11/01 was the begginning, but the nosediving economy and further fear and anger over the likely prospects of a protracted war with terrorism has taken a certain toll on most people's state of mind. I've heard of a lot of incidences of people being terse and irritable all over the place. I know I've felt that way, and I let loose pent up anger release on the BBs. May not have been so hard about it if not for all these factors going on. Lots of other's in each other's faces more than usual too on these fishing sites. I'm glad you brought this up. Awareness of it all can help lead to a little more understanding and tolerance on the BBs and everywhere else. Thanks for the opp for people to air it out Ryan.
So if you feel like it, air it out.

Re: Petzold asks - Why is everyone so grumpy? - Good Q.
RT,
I think that a lot of the grumpiness that Ryan was refering to was reflected in the: QUEETS, NOOCH, FALSE REPORTS threads. I agree that the events of 9/11 have profoundly affected all of our lives. But in this case I think the real grumpiness stems from something else. Here is a copy of my post over there. Hopefully it has some relevance. Otherwise, completely disregard it as the ramblings of one who doesn't know as much as he might think.

It's pretty easy to figure out Ryan, GREED
Yeah, there's more fish than usual this year, but there's also ALOT more people trying to catch them. We don't like it when we can't go out and catch sh*tloads of fish without anyone else around. Research shows that when rats are crowded together, they become more agressive. People are the same way (think road rage) Everyone wants to have their fishing experience be peaceful, uncrowded, and most of all, productive. When we hike in to our favorite hole on our zipperlip river, and there are 10 guys there already, it REALLY ****** us off (it really ****** me off anyway) Basic human nature has us wired to look out for ourselves first, and screw everyone else. The saddest part is that Washington is only going to get MORE crowded, and I seriously doubt that we will be able to sustain the kind of salmon and steelhead runs that we are seeing this year.
As hard as it will be (again for me anyway) to learn to not get so angry when we feel crowded in, it seems like the only solution to a no-win problem. Either that, or take up bird-watching.

I think it's because steelhead season is on the horizon. That seemes to bring out the worst of people. Not this board as much as the other one.

I agree with 4Salt. Maybe it's just because of where I live?

Hey Nanny .. ah, I mean Na'nooker - you need more sleep and less bananas. Give this thread it's due chance. Ryan is a young guy, only about 20?, and he has brought out a good point and discussion with potential to ... hang on a sec ... yaaaaawn, ho hum ... where was I. Nevermind, I forget. Re: Petzold asks - Why is everyone so grumpy? - Good Q.
When I was stationed in Europe back in the 80's, We had terroist organizations right outside the base entrance. We were told not to frequent any of the pubs & Gasthauses in the area due to terroist activity. Of course if you tell a 125 people NOT to do something the first thing someone is going to do is find out why. Well we had 2 guys go find out why and brought back two German working girls(I don't mean executive type either) The next day the commander called formation 15 minutes later than usual and had more to tell us about terrorist activies. We were all standing there in front of a hellicopter hanger and watched a friends car blow up in front of us.
Of course the Polizi were called and the bomb squad reacted. They found it to be a time bomb and his friend's car had a pressure switch under the drivers seat. If he had sat down in the drivers seat he would have been blown up too. The only thing that saved both of them was the commander being late.
I refuse to be scared of what is happening. If you change your way of life because of 9/11 or carry fear in your heart thinking that you are the next target, Than the terroist has won. He has done what he set out to do TERRORIES US. Don't be scared or nerveous or paranoid. JUST BE AWARE!!

Are folks grumpy in general or just irritated at certain people?

Re: Petzold asks - Why is everyone so grumpy? - Good Q.
'Nook, you must have about as much free-time at work as I do!
Thanks that last gif made me a bit less grumpy!
I think there IS a connection with 9/11 and other some other matters (read Boeing Lay-offs) that can make some folks a touch quicker on the keyboard than they might be otherwise.
We just gotta remember to take a few steps back from our screens and exhale before we pull the trigger on that post.
Don't want to lose that family feeling we have here, do we?
Looking forward to showing some of you "Southerners" how to catch some 'Ho's on Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHOA....... Hopefully that one stays away...... The man does post some phat graphics, I wish I knew how to get ahold of some of the stuff he puts on here. What's the story with the banana stuff anyways? Could anyone be brief? That star wars one was pretty cool. I think I'm off to fish now.Peace.

See how this thread went from a 'grumpy' topic to laughs and help!!!
I Love this place!
RT, can you fit 'Nook's seat into your sled? Might help keep some folks from finding out about 'bay mud' on those potty breaks!

Hey 'Nook, how about attaching that thing to a pair of pontoons? Maybe add a paddle-wheel?
I think you could be a bazillionaire with that little invention! Might even convince RT to buy one.

Hooch, you've probably already talked to Jim about F III being toast. He called this afternoon and said it's not gonna be a go. The F III threads have it canceled and put on notice for the first fishable Sat. in November. I was looking forward to meeting you as we fished alongside of Jim's sled, and seeing the look on your face as I sat on a toilet seat in my sled.

I'm bummed!!! Fishihg with Jim is a good trip any time and I really wanted to meet up with you and see the look on your face as my wife kicked all our butts! Jim has a way of putting her onto fish and I've stolen some of his ideas in order to keep the domestic peace.
The toilet seat in the sled is a good idea. Beats the **** outta the ol' 5-gallon bucket, huh?
