Default Tillamook Bay, 10/20

Another gorgeous day on Tillamook Bay.
Fished with Hookset, and Pilar, in Hook's boat.

Man, that is one dream boat. You should see the cool pull out tackle drawers! WOW! I can't think of any details this man hasn't thought of for his boat!
Loved Pilar's shirt!

It was really crowded. Fogged in for a bit in the morning, and we had difficulty managing the channel. When the fog lifted, it was funny, cuz we saw all the other boats scattered in the strangest places also having nav problems!

Soon, we were all back on track and fishing.
Didn't get a fish all day, however, Hook felt one, gave it a pull and came up with one fish scale! Funny!
Had a great day, it's really beautiful out on the bay this time of year.
Saw lots of neato people, and lots of smiles.
Came home tons of really great e mail.
We have a great community here. I am thankful that I am a part of it!

Bob Rees of THE GUIDES FORECAST had given me a great spinner. I collect them from the guides and put their names on them. He told me it wouldn't work until November. I used it in October, and guess what? He was right! I lost the darned thing! I had promised, and I broke my promise! But guess what???? He is so nice that he gave me another one!!!
Not until November.... Not until November....
Bob got into a nice one... as usual!!!
Go BOB! And thanks!

Thanks, Gregg. It was so cool to just relax and leave the driving to you. We should work on the fish migration theory soon.

I make a habit of checking out the appointments on any boat I fish in. Your boat has all of the things I like in a fishing boat and a few I've never seen before. Now I'll have to update the wish list for the next boat.

I fished Melmaloose (sp) Saturday 10/20, with Catch-n Eat, his dad Carl, and my new buddy, 4th grader Spencer who says he wants the moniker "Shaggy", after I tried to explain what a moniker was to him. I asked him how we will know if we have a fish, and he said the rod will bend. He was right.

We started off with kicker trouble, but went ahead and spinner fished with the big motor along with about 6,000 other boats.

As the tide changed we decided to bobber fish. My new buddy Spencer, oops I mean Shaggy, and I decided to team up. I'll hook it, and he reels 'em up and Carl and Bernie can net 'em. Well, me and Spencer, I mean Shaggy, do our part, but the netting team needs a bigger net if my buddy Shaggy (got it right this time) is on board.

Here is the result!
I don't recommend holding the rod like this for any male over 12 . It worked for old Shaggy though.

Nice to see a smiling fisherman. Good job Spencer. He handled this fish from the time it was hooked, by himself. You da man Shaggy.

I could'nt quite make out what Catch-n-Eat was mumbling after he saw the fish.
42 pounds!

Had a great time yesterday, no fish but some great company. Including about 1,000 of my closest friends in nearby boats.

Way to go Spencer, that's a mighty large fish. So who weighs more, you or the fish?? Now what are you going to ask for Christmas? Get yourself a nice salmon rod and reel and you'll be set for next year.

Hey Spooled, you made my boy's day Saturday by handing him that "little" fish. He has not stopped talking about it (bragging more like it). He now has caught a bigger fish than his sister (age 12). She had the record until Saturday with a 43 inch Red Fish in Florida this spring. But Shaggy (Spencer) has done well this year in the Ocean and Buoy 10. 23# buck at 10 and handled it by himself to the net. Quite a fisherman!

Troy, first class move in the "handoff" to Spencer. Made his face light up. But Troy what I really want to know is did you realizde just how big this fish really was? I sure did not until it came up into view. Nice job Spencer!!! you are the mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnna!!!!!!!!!!

Shaggy is begging to write you something so here it is:

HEY TROY THANKS FOR HANDING ME THE POLE SO I COULD CATCH THAT FISH!!!!!!

About that mumbling thing there Spooled. Well, must of been envy. Or could it have been something regarding that danged kicker motor. Naw, it was just the stress of fishing with you dude. Up staging a kids father and hand him a fish that is bigger than his dad has ever caught. He just won't let me forget it. Now the challenge is on between us. I have got to get a bigger fish! My fatherly figure is at stake here

By the way folks, this was our first attempt at this type of fishing. Great results and a good end to the day. By the way Shaggy was man enough to let Spooled take that brute home. Although he does expect a package of smoked "handoff" to help him lower his voice back to normal. Taking a handoff is not all bad now is it boys?

Thanks again Troy.

Bernie

Spooled, very nice of you to bring by the pictures of that brute nookie. Spencer (shaggy) loved it. He is still bragging tonight. I think I am just about to shut him up with one of my dirty socks. His grandpa is pretty proud of him too. Told everyone the story at work today and asked for a picture to tote around and show everyone.

As for me, I still dream of breaking the 40# mark. But it is only a dream Yet, I must be strong and stay the road. Eventually I will get one. On my own rod of course.

Thanks again Troy you made Shaggy's day! To all you that got skunked on Saturday, including Hookset, Shaggy says....

Believe me Hookset, Shaggy has had plenty of humble pie for a 9 year old. His old man makes sure of that. But, he has done very well this year. He has 8 fish on his little tag that he has kept. 2 are chinook. Not bad for 9 eh?

Sorry you guys did'nt connect Gregg. Saturday seemed like an off day over there. We left at 12:30. Did you see it get any better at the high side of the tide? We would have stayed but the darn kicker motor would not run. Tom's Outboard is going to get it back since he did not tune it right this last time.

Catch,

We saw a few landed here and there from 12 till 3, nothing great. Your right about the bite, overall very slow. This rain should get some fish moving. Tomorrow could be the day.

Shaggy has 9 fish!! That's terrific, congratulations on a great year Shaggy. There are a number of people who would like to have your success. Way to go dad!
