TBay Thursday:
Spent the night at a buddies beach house and was on the water before first light Thursday rigged to fish and crab. Weather was perfect, clear with a very light wind. The swells started at Kinchloe point and were uncomfortable by the time we got near the Coast Guard tower. The bar was closed, so we trolled the jaws with a dozen or so boats for about an hour. No fish caught, and the grass was as bad as I've ever seen, 3-5 lb gobs evers three or four minutes. We headed in and trolled through the Coast Guard Hole towards the Ghost Hole, making a pass all the way to Bay City - still no fish seen or heard of. As we turned back towards garibaldi we saw a nice fish hooked, and then about 15 seconds later my friends rod went off. One impressive run later, SNAP goes the 50# Tuffline, no more fish. Kinda hard to explain, but we think the line wrapped around itself above the first swivel and pinched itself. One more fish seen in the next hour or two, so off to catch those easy crabs --- NOT. We crabbed four rings shallow, deep and in between. The previous week three of us had our two day limit of 72 in no time. Today, two hours for three crabs. Inside Kinchloe point was dead (tide was running hard, but three???). Some people we talked to got there limit in the jaws, but said you needed lots of rope (75-100 ft min) and two buoys or you'd get pulled under. Shoulda stayed to high slack when crabbing picks up, but we needed to get home. Oh well, nice day at least.
Did anybody go outside when they opened the bar?
