Upper Sandy Silvers
Any reports for the upper Sandy? I'm thinking of going Saturday and wondered where they are now.
Thanks.

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
they were knocking the snot out of 'em a week ago. with the rain that came through, everything in the clackamas shot up into the creek and i suspect most of the silvers in the sandy bolted for the hatchery. there are probably a few fresh fish in by now, but i doubt it'll be the slaughter it was before.
if you're heading up to the mouth of cedar creek, you'll probably see me out there. i'll be in the green hat with the blue "batman utility belt of fishing".

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
ampersat or anyone,
Do you know if it's still legal to take Chinook on the Sandy? If so how much longer will the season be open for them? Are there still Chinook bright enough to target?

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
chinook, clipped and native, are legal through october 31 on the sandy. as to whether there are still any bright fish, i don't know. i'd suppose there are a few mixed in with all the ones turning dark already.

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
Is Cedar Creek itself open to fishing or just from the mouth down into the Sandy? Also, are lures with trebles legal or do I need to go with single hooks?

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
the creek itself is not open to fishing, just the sandy river. trebles are legal, check your regs for hook size. if you're tossing a number 3 or larger spinner with a treble on it, you're more than likely legal on hook size.

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
amp,
Do the cohos or steelies go upstream in the sandy further than CedarCk or do they all turn and go into the creek? And are there any dams on the Clackamas below Egal Ck. ?

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
Friendly,
On the Clack the first dam is Rivermill which is around Estacada. So your answer is no dams before Eagle Creek.

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
according to the marmot dam counts for 2000, coho are picked up in the traps there. they don't split the counts out for clipped and non-clipped. however, to my knowledge, coho are pretty single-minded about going back to where they came from, so i wouldn't expect to see more than a few stray hatchery fish higher than cedar creek.

Re: Upper Sandy Silvers
i went up there today. a lot left with one, some with three. me, i went home empty handed, again. most were taken on eggs, some were on spinners. i had one on and a few hits. there are definitely fish in up there. looks like the early birds are getting the worms.
