Default Deschutes Reports?

Hello all,

Year to date count of steelhead over Bonneville is more than 600,000. There ought to be some pretty fair steelhead fishing all the way to Warm Springs.

Anyone been there the last few days and care to share a report? Thanks!

garyk - don't have anything to personally report (too busy killing deer and pheasants lately ) but my neighbor fished around Warm Springs last week. Was using Cleo's I believe and had two keepers in just over an hour. He wouldn't tell me exactly where, but it sounded like he was above the bridge there someplace. So there must be enough around to give it a try. Good luck and let me know how you do if you go.

Garyk I was there Sunday actually below Maupin. I fly fished all day and caught 1. I saw one other fly fisherman with a fish. This time of year you can expect there to be ecxellent numbers of fish everywhere in the river. Deschutes steelhead are almost always grabby so they are not difficult to catch.
Effective methods are

Fly fishing with both floating or sink tip lines
throwing spinners and spoons any color pretty much
not many do it but you could drift a corkie and yarn, but no bait.
also using a side planer and a hot shot is effective.

No matter your method and or the regulations please use only single barbless hooks. Deschutes native steelhead are in very serious trouble we need each and every one to spawn next spring.
