Keep a Lookout in Salem!
Well, I'm not quite sure what to say, but some *%&#! broke in to my girlfirends house yesterday, January 31st between 9am and 2pm. Only one neighbor thought they saw a green van parked in the driveway around noon. Other than that we have nothing to go by. It was in West Salem near Eola road.
They took everything of value!
- 42" Toshiba LCD HDTV (brand new)
- Toshiba DVD player (brand new)
- HP Laptop (brand new)
- Canon Digital Camera
- 30GB Video Ipod and dock
- Cannon 35mm professional camera
- All her jewlry
- Check books, credit cards
and numerous other items.
If anybody hears of anyone in the West salem Area selling any similar items for really cheap. Please let me know. Especially if the person has a van of some sorts.
The only positive thing about the whole situation is that she usually comes home for lunch at noon everyday and she didn't make it home until 2pm yesterday. It could have been very scary if she had walked in on them.
Thanks,
Eric

Wow! Sorry to hear that. And in broad daylight. They sure don't care anymore. I hope she gets everything back and they catch these creeps. Good luck.

Re: Keep a Lookout in Salem!
what we found out when our house was broken into was that our stuff started showing up in Sacremento pawn shops. Only reason we even found out was I had put our phone number and ODL numbers on some of the stuff and the pawn owner was an honest guy and called me! We got back some stereo equipment, a guitar amp and a laptop. Probably 10% of what was taken. The really interesting part of the story was the nice OSP investigator who told us that the tweeker theft rings have a regular run out of state with stolen items. They KNOW better than to pawn them locally. So they take a weeks worth of stuff from all the thieves, throw it into a u-haul van/truck and off to Seattle, Sacremento, SanFran, Reno... they go.
Crazy....

Be careful after the insurance replacements are bought. They will occasionally come back.

Re: Keep a Lookout in Salem!
yeah i know someone already mentioned it...but you should type some of those items into the search on craigslist.com and see what comes up....Ive experienced the same thing first hand . sorry to hear about that. Good luck to you and your girlfriend! I know it happens everywhere at anytime, but Salem is so bad for this kind of stuff....even in the broad daylight. Most likely due to all of the desperate meth heads hanging around!

Re: Keep a Lookout in Salem!
Sorry to hear about the breakin. Scumbags.
Hope you get lucky and recover her things.
0.02 worth of advice for all:
1. Get a $10 engraver and engrave your dirvers license on most everything you own. IE: ODL 1235689
2. Save up a little money and buy a med size safe if you do not already have a gun safe or such. Just do a web search. 4 yrs ago I got one that has 2 shelves and a legal size file drawer, 4 hr fire rating, delevered to my door for about $250. It is now bolted to the floor in my office. Serious peace of mind and security.
3. Take digital pictures or movies of your household contents and store this off site, 2 locations is best.
4. Photo copy the contents of your wallet, checkbook, etc.
