Default Kalama Report

I fished the Kalama 4 days this week. Sunday evening we did a quick float frm Mahaffeys to Modrow. My sister caught a bright 11 pound chinook. This was her first salmon, Boy was she excited. That was the only fish on sunday.
Monday morning we hit the canyon for a couple hours, I hit 1 silver jack up there. Later in the day we did the float from Mahaffeys down. My brother-in-law caught a chrome brite steelhead and a silver, I got a silver.
Tuesday afternoon we did the same float. We hooked 7 fish, all steelhead. I got 2 of the prettiest little wild steelhead you have ever seen on back to back casts. M sister caught her first steelhead, a 6 lb hen that thought she was 12 lbs. I hooked and lost another fish. My bro-in-law hoked and lot 2. My friend Adam got a big wild male. All the wild fish were released.
This after noon we did that float again. We didnt hit any fish by the time we got to the ramp so we walked on down the river to the next couple holes. I ended up getting a small steelhead and my wife got a dandy silver. Adam and my sister both had fish on but lost them.
Pray for rain! When we get another a good shot of water the Kalama wll be full of silvers. There would be more fish now if the netter were out of the Columbia, 2 of the fish we landed had net marks.
Call Kalama River Bait and Tackle for updated reports.

How were you getting them? Pulling Plugs? Drift Fishing? Usually when I go up there we generally drift eggs and throw spinners. Oh ya thanx for telling me about the fly fish zone. I havn't been up there for a while and forgot all about it.

We got all bt one of the fish drift fishing eggs. We got the nook fishing eggs with a split shot in a deep slow hole.
If you do that drift, Blow through all the water until you get past the the first big hole. Pull the boat over at the top of the first good run and fish it from the bank. Walk softly and try to keep a low profile The water is clear and the fish are spooky.
Oh Yeah! sneak down the the first tail out below the pipe line. On tuesday there must have been a dozen fish laying on it. We goofed up and didnt fish it.
