Default Owner Hooks

This past Friday I fished the Wilson river with my good friend Mark Anderson and his wifes boss John. I hooked three Chinook and one steelhead using Owner jig hooks. The hook stayed sharp!!! First fish to the last! I'm sold on these hooks! They aren't cheap but they are cheaper than Gamikatsu hooks. I've not tried Diachi or Visions but have tried just about everything else and these Owners are the best.

Thanks for sharing that stewed, they are spendy and I have found some sizes are hard to find. They are obviously popular!

In the past week I have hooked 15 or so chinook bobber fishing and only had 1 spit the hook, And I had tied on an eagle claw hook on that praticular rig because my friend had just tied one up. They are sharp as heck and seem to hold up well. I was worried about them breaking when fishing 80/40 ,but the didn't. I bent a few on fish (Didn't lose the fish) but overall I give them a good rating. I am going to try some 1/0 out tomorrow on some fish drifting , I am expecting good results. I will post the results tomorrow afternoon.~~~~~JB

IMHO, Owner hooks rule.

In laboratory tests on these hooks, it takes the greatest amount of pressure to drive home the point and progressively less pressure to imbed the hook more deeply. This is due to a multi-faceted knife-blade point, which also makes them theoretically impossible to properly re-sharpen.

When in the tackle business a few years back, the local bass club members would buy Eagle Claw hooks by the gross. We knew when there was an upcoming tournament 'cause they'd buy Owner hooks in packages of four or six at several times the cost. Price didn't make a difference when catching fish was really important.

Although those suckers are painfully spendy, I'll step up for 'em. Catching fish is always that important to me personally, and a poor quality hook is a lousy reason to lose a good one.

Owner's are awesome hooks. The way I look at it is how much is catching a fish worth. People will buy the best tow rigs, boats, motors, and then buy crappy hooks!! It kills me to see people do this. When it comes to Hooks, line, rods, and reels....Own the best you can possibly afford!! You can fish out of an inner tube if you have to, but if the connection between you and the fish is **** , why even bother being out there?

FMS, and Joe's both carry owners, They are usually out of popular sizes.

Hi everyone, these hooks are awesome. The only drawback I've found with them is in drift fishing for steelhead or salmon, when you damage the tip you can't resharpen them.I use them for bobber fishing and for salmon and steelhead and also for sturgeon fishing. Most big sporting goods stores carry them.I've been useing vision hooks lately for drift fishing they are very sharp,I don't know that there any better then gammies tho.just my 2 1/2 cents worth. You can get Owner hooks at BC Angling Post in Oregon City. The store is next to Fisherman’s. I have used VMC, gammies, Eagle Claw and Mustad without problems. Of course maybe if I could hook a fish or two now and then I could do some field testing.

Crappy is on a pre made list of words that I got to put in the word program on the BB.
I think I fixed it.
Forever editing and trying to improve!

It all comes down to the hook. Like Jellyhead said above why put out all the cash and then skimp on the hooks. Of all the jig hooks I've fished with, Owner hooks have been the best hook by far.

Owner makes two different kinds of hook points. The one that is difficult to resharpen is the "SSW with cutting point hook'. Owner also makes a "SSW with super needle point" hook that can easily be sharpened. Both of these hooks hold their point very well.

I've fished with a lot of hooks over the years and since I've switched over to Owner jig hooks my hook up ratio has gone through the roof. I can't say that about any other jig hook I've fished with.

Let me put in a plug for Owner trebles, specifically the 4x vacuum tin plated chemically sharpened ones in sizes 1, 2 and 4. They are labeled "Stinger Trebles" (ST-51-4x) and are sold via Bass Pro/ Offshore Angler. Yes, they are VERY expensive.

On my latest trip to Australia, I had about 15 of these as spares in each size range. Once I found a lure was hot, I changed the VMC 4x strong trebles (good hooks, but not as good) for Owners for extra security. The plan worked well in practice.

It's kind of complicated to explain the word thing, but I tried, in a post earlier, where I asked you guys for help when you write a word that isn't a bad word and it bleeps it out. I will be editing it, and taking words out of this pre made list for some time.
I don't find crappy offensive, but perhaps, for some other bulletin boards it may be? I don't know.
Anyway, I'm sorry that crap hit the fan!!

Thanks Jellyhead for the tip on where to find Owner hooks. Indeed, I did find them at FMS, they seemed to have the full run of sizes in stock - least the 1/0's I wanted.

I tied 'em up last night and look forward to testing them on Sandy silvers this weekend.

Thanks again.
