Re: Theeee all time question
Maybe this analogy might help explain the situation just a little:
You've been on heavy-duty appetite supressants for a couple of weeks. You've pretty much lost all interest in food because you now have a HOT new girlfriend that you are trying to meet at that special rendezvous you know about. Problem is, it's not open yet, so you have to wait until everything is just right. Man, you've got only ONE thing on your mind! You're ready to burst! Suddenly, someone hits you in the head with a bologna sandwich. What do YOU do?

I died laughing, but I woke up now!
Seriously, (that was toooooo funny! )
Seriously, though, (Dang that was funny!)
Try Marie's Shrimp Scent while bobbering with eggs.
I swear it works!

Re: Theeee all time question
4salt - that was plenty funny, I guess when you get to spawn once in your life, a bologna sandwich doesnt look to good when your getting close to spawn time.
Floater - I think I know where that bridge is near the foothills you described Last time I looked there was a sign at the end of the bridge that said "no parking, fishing or loitering on bridge". Some of them will be picking up those eggs in their mouth, thinking they are returning them to the nest soon. Bobber down! Don't tell PETA or Roland Martin.

Re: Theeee all time question
Combo of Barometric pressure, temperature, time of day, length of day, tide (if applicable), probable point in spawning cycle, location and scent of the person fishing.
I'm currently working on a formula mapping(using all the above info) that will peg when and what the fish will bite on every day of the year for all Pacific NW for the next 10 year cycle. There are a lot of algorithmic possibilities and combos here, but when I figure it out, I suspect I'll make a million with the chart......I wish.
Or, I coulda just said "Idunno"

Re: Theeee all time question
4salt, LMAO! Good analogy with the bologna sandwich and all.
Another thing to think about:
When you are getting close to getting lucky, much like a salmon entering the river, what would you do if an annoying moth was buzzing around in front of your face. You'd swat that little mother ****** like it ain't no thang. Much like salmon and steelies will crush plugs and spinners. If you can't trigger a feeding response then **** 'em off with hardware.

Re: Theeee all time question
Perhaps if we had some candles, a bottle of wine, and a warm fire going, they'd be more interested in eating. A little something to set the mood for them.

Re: Theeee all time question
Hey, 9 times out of 10 if you see them, they see you. Were you fishing morning or mid afternoon? Could have been that people might have been snagging on those fish.
One way to see if they're biters before you even make a cast is to cut a small bait of eggs and toss it off the bridge. If they take it, well don't panic take your time tie up, and make a good cast. If it's slower to dead water just go staight line to the eggs without any lead and let it free fall close to them.
Hope this helps,
Keith

Theeee all time question
Here's the question asked by fishermen for the past 40,000yrs. How do you get fish to bite?
I know if we had the 'right' answer, we'd all catch fish, but darn it, there's got to be something you can do to trigger the bite.
There's all the times that we use the wrong bait or have seaweed on the spinner or we're to deep or to shallow or etc, and I realize this.
Anyway, as I was leaving Tillamook on Sunday, we ran over to a bridge that crosses over the Trask near the foothills. Oh the fish! We jigged with Little Cleo's, Steelies, Crippled Hearing, eggs, etc, etc. When you put it right in front of their face and thay don't swim away and they won't bite it's enough to drive you nuts. Heck, I hit a couple in the head and all they did was swim a 3ft wide 360deg turn and come right back. No, I was not snagging, I was trying to get them to bite but the darn things wouldn't take. Re: Theeee all time question
Hah, good one 4salt.
I've heard it and heard it but now I think I understand. I've got to think like a h****y fish that only gets one chance in life.
One chance huh? I don't know if I want to think about that.
Maybe I'll just keep fishing so I can enjoy the outdoors and I'll try not to think to much.
BOE, nope, no posted signs.
