Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
I'm fishing in the Salmon Hawg Invitational Tournament this week at Tillamook. Any other ifishers out there participating? Look forward to meeting you.... I already know Scott Kappes is out there, his team took 1st place last year beating my team by 8 total lbs! Revenge will be sweet. Hawg

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
Maybe there would be more ifishers involved if they allowed women. RW

RW,
Maybe you could arange a tournament to coincide with the S.H.I.T. It could be called: Women's Invitational Piscatorial Extravaganza Or W.I.P.E. for short.

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
I’m a newbee to the tourney (my second year) so I'm going to avoid commenting on the equality issue since I don't know how the tournament has evolved since its start back in 1988. I just love to fish and am glad to contribute to a good cause at the same time. Over the last eight years the tourney has raised around $19,000 for the Tillamook Anglers Association. They use the proceeds for fish enhancement work in Tillamook and to help support their annual handicapped kids free fishing day.

Oh, by all means lets invite as many people as possible. I suggest we start by inviting the following groups:
County Rasslin’ Association of Portland
Federated Anphibian & Reptile Traders
Computer Real Audio Programmers
Portland International Stealhead and Salmoners
(Gee, aren’t programmable search engines fun?)

Is this actually legit? A charitable operation using a vulgar and offensive acronym like that? What fun!

Wow, nice to see they are donating money to help a habitat-restoration group but what is up with the knuckle-dragging, heavy-browed, no wiminfolks attitude? If it ever hits the press it'll go over like a beer flatulation in church.

Good way to limit your fund raising ability too. Guess who has custody of the checkbook at my house!

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
Yes, I am sorry to say it is very true. When I heard about the tournament I asked around about it. I asked the "chief" organizer about signing up and he said to my face, "it is invitational only, and women are not allowed and will never be".
This is not a "die on my sword" issue, but I like to give back to my community and participate in several other fishing fundraisers. It is one of the few very affordable fundraisers around. It is to bad they don't want as much participation as possible. RW

In this day and age, not allowing Women in totally inexcusable!!! I sure would not ever be associated with that funtion, good for the resource or not. UNREAL!!!

Wow, a misogynist fund raising group! We have uncovered a cave of neanderthals. Good cause, not clever. I hope this thread falls off quickly to get this S.H.I.T. off my screen as soon as possible.

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
Hard to believe. I buy my license, I purchase tackle, fuel, make boat payments, allow Dear Hubby to go fishing when I don't want to go, am in charge of the caritable contributions in our home, and last-but-not-least, got my husband fishing in the first place. He had mentioned this tournament before. He won't be participating.
Jeeze, I'm even a fisheries biologist, and I can't participate.

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
What? No wominx, even Popeye let Olive oil run the boat.
As chauvanistic as I am I find that hard to believe. Maybe it is a boyscout function.
It seems that this was the tourney that I was invited to enter a boat in last year but no one ever told me the rules. My wife was going to let me ride along with her. I guess it's a good thing we couldn't make it. (I would hate to have the wife show them up)

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
I have heard really good things about the tourney, but this is the first I'd heard about no women.
But, I guess we sidetracked a bit.
Hawg wants to know if there are any ifishers?
Can we get back to that for him?
Thanks,
Jen

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
Hello and WOW....This was getting hot there for a while.
Hawgwash.....Yes, we will be trying to defend the "Title" again this year, but I truly think it will take more than 4 fish, (as it did last year) to take home the trophy. I can just remember the look on your face when we "Posted" fish #4 on the Board....you were not a Happy guy
That's ok....just 2 more days to go, and it's time to redeem yourself! Kwikfish wrapped??? Herring Purchased?? Spinners Shined up??? What's your Gameplan??
Unfortunately, this Tournament has and from what I know, will always be the "Guys Fishing Getaway" . The problem herein lies in the fact that the "Event" is just getting too Large, and, the organizers still want it to be FUN and Fun to organize...Unlike some of the "Fisherman's Marine Sturgeon Tourneys" that can sometimes bring out the Worst and get out of control, they just don't need (or want) the hassles associated with the Bigger Events.
Let me know!
Scott

Ooooh, considering the response so far, maybe you be sure you didn't mean that women would bring out the "worst". (NOT a flame, just checking)

I couldn't post any sooner....I had to go to the hospital and get my tongue sewed back on!
Just kidding!
I was already too mouthy today, so I have to behave for a little while.
I don't think Scott meant it the way it sounds though.

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
STG....
When I say "Worst", just ask RW what I'm talking about. Last years FMS Sturgeon event was a mess.... Too many People, Gillnetters trying to win with fish they had Netted earlier, Running out of food after people coughed up $75.00 a piece, etc. Events like these bring out a whole new "Element" of which the Organizers have NO Interest....Arguably so.
It's just not worth it....Takes all of the fun out of an event which was originally, 14 years ago, an event with 8-10 buddies having a good time.

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
I have never fished in S.h.i.t. and as far as iam concerned any organization who prohibits a person from fishing just because she is female dont account for much in my book. Why is it some people will never learn?
Maybe some of you who know all about this should organize your own "come one come all tournament".The disrespect shown by these people is totally unacceptable. When they have a tournament that is open regardless of race or gender then count me in. Cagey.

good luck all in the tourney. The fishing in tillamook has been just like the name of this event. S.H.I.T. I think this year one fish may win it.

Hot1, Bigger is not always better, but I vote for equal every time.
My all woman team in the Sturgeon Derby came in 16th out of what 165 teams, and we will be back next year. RW

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
I don't understand some thinking here.
You have guys that root(sp?) on a womans only tourney. Saying what a great cause it is. But then denounce and refuse to have anything to do with a mans only tourney.......
Is someone trying to impress someone or what's the deal.

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
Is this all Bill has to write about on Sunday morning. S.H.I.T. !!!! Get a grip ladies. this is a group of guys who want to go out and have fun by invitation only. Why can't I be invited? Whine, snivel, carp,. By the way, I wasn't invited either and feel none the less worthy to go out and fish for FUN!!!!! I hand it to these guys who are doing something worthwhile. This " mine is bigger than yours" attitude is what kills most good causes. Oh I also like the comments about "I control the checkbook in this house." He does what I tell him. Sounds like a good solid relationship to me.
In "our' household, "we" control the checkbook, and "we" decide what funds will be spent on.....
We need more S.H.I.T.
Especially in Tillamook County, bring it on!

Re: Any S.H.I.T. Ifishers out there?
Thanks for the reminder Marty! Last year there weren't as many folks as there were seats. I fished on my own, in my boat the day of last year's tournament ... angling pressure was pretty low, but I went home with a 31 pound buck and a 37 pound hen. There's some great fishing in November and doing it for a good cause makes it that much sweeter!
