Default Verizon FIOS

It looks as though we will be switching from Comcast to Verizon FIOS. What has been your experience with this service? How is the customer service with Verizon? We are operating an older PC with Windows 98 so it looks as though it is time to upgrade. Thanks for any and all responses.

I just did a search and found quite a bit of feed back on these same questions. I think custormer service is going to be the only issue. I have been trying to change my original install date and a few other things and I am not having a lot of luck getting thru to anyone.

We were going to try to change over to Verizon, however waiting on hold for 40 minutes just to sign up for new services and schedule installation was a big turn off. We will be with Comcast until that type of customer service changes.

I love the service, so to me it was worth the hassle. I also had trouble scheduling, but the people who came to my house to do the install were very good. I find that in most instances with Verizon in general, the people on the phone suck, and the people who come to do the work are great!

Talking Re: Verizon FIOS

I've had Verizon FIOS nearly a year now. Nothing to complain about. I signed up online, got a call the next day from Verizon, 1 week later a survey guy marks out the utilities and a couple days later Verizon calls to schedule the install.

Couldn't have been easer and it was only $5.00 more than DSL.

Fios is well worth the change. They chaned our phone line as well. When our phone started to go over the lines I had them remove to old copper aeril ones. It changes your yard for the better too.

I would go with Verizon......If they were the only source for high speed internet. I would quit watching TV before going to them. Worst customer service I have ever had to deal with. Crooks IMO.

I can't get FiOS, I'm in a Qwest "area", so it's Qwest or Comcast.
FiOS users are among the most content group of broadband subscribers.
Check "Broadband Reports".

Judging from their latest billboards, Comcast is very worried about FiOS.
They make a big deal about how they to, are fiber-optic based.

They can't match FiOS speed.

My wife and I switched to Verizon a few weeks ago and could not be happier. I did spend about 20 minutes on hold before I got to talk to some one, but after that they were all over it. I had the install guy at my house about 2 hours after the initial phone call.

The TV package is outstanding. The only problem in now there are almost too many channels to pick from. The signal quality is great and our new plasma looks as good as I had hoped it would.

We made the change to the phone and internet last summer and so far there have been no problems. The service I have recived has been good, so I have no complaints thus far.

We had Comcast for Tv and internet prior to Verizon. I called Comcast to give them the chance to meet Verizon's price and they were not able to come close. Now that Comcast is starting to loose market share and their stock is getting hammered, perhaps their service and prices will come more into line with their competetors.

Comcast pulls a fiber optic line to your neighborhood. Verizon pulls one to your house. Huge difference in bandwidth when you don't have to share the line with every one else in your area. How long do think it will be before Comcast has to start the same thing??

I just switched from Dish Network to Comcast, for TV, big mistake, I'm going back to the dish and it's only been a week

I do a lot of online gaming and comcast is the best for internet gaming. People I've talked with say they have problems with packet loss/lag with verizon fios.

If you just use the internet for downloading music, vidz and browsing you'll never notice the difference between Fios/Comcast, unless your on a Mac price is about the same now since comcast just lowered from 52 to 42 for 6mb.

We switched from Comcast to Verizon last month. So far we like the service. We have the complete ph, internet and HD TV package. After comcast, it takes some getting use to the guide page on the tv setup. Just alot more to look at. During the installation, we had an issue with the installer. He walks in w/muddy shoes and doesn't even think anything about it. They drill a 1" hole through the wall to install their battery backup inside. What I didn't like was the fact that they just use some caulking to fill the space around the cable going into the residence. Not very professional looking and really quite ugly. The installer was from a group of guys who were on contract from Californial so really his attitude was quite unprofessional as he was not going to be up here past this month. I finally had a supervisor called and I told him about my concerns and the installer immediatley had some booties to put on his feet. The supervisor said we would be contacted by somebody to fix the ugly hole through the was in a day or so but we have not been contacted yet. We did file a complaint with Verizon but they have not even gotten back to us. The product is great but be carefull on the installation. Rocky Balada

Would like to clear a little bit up....... Fios yes is a directly strung Fiber optic line.. Comcast does use fiber optic we just dont run to every house speratly. Fios's speeds on the most popular is 5mbps runs more than comcast's 6mb. 90% of the high speed internet customers in the comcast verizon market either use a vist xp edition computer or have the lower 2000 or 98. With that said A typical used, brand new, or slightly used computer with all the gadgets will not even get over 8mb or even 6mb in processing downloads or uploads for that matter. Also with the noticing the speed issue. Somthing I learned for my local eye doc. Was explaining to me the other day while doing my follow up before my lasek was that the human eye can only process 1mb per second at a time so even if your getting 25-35mbps your eyes can only process 1mbps of that. If you use a web site called speakeasy.net or any form of speed test only thing that is showing you is what your reciving from the main towers or centeral station to your computer and back. That is my little tid bit on fios vs comcast. I am not bashing verizon in any way i just thought i would bring a couple things up that maybe is a little help. Not sure though but thank you for reading................

I switched to a Verizon bundle package and it is great. I had no problems whatsoever. The installation was very good, clean and totally professional. Both myself and the wife could not be happier. We had Verizon phone, Direct Tv and comcast for internet. Our total bill, Or should I say three bills were $180.00 per month. Now with Verizon it is $130.00 per month. Pretty much a no brainer. When I called Comcast to cancel they tried to offer me a lower price, which still cannot compete with Verizon. Direct Tv was the same deal. As for the guy who had the sloppy installer, call and complain about it. Our guy was perfect. Took his boots off and put on clean slippers to work in our house. Oh yeah, He used to work for Comcast. Well,

I started this thread so here is my update. Our FIOS will not be installed until tomorrow. We put it off until we updated our PC. We now have a Dell XPS 420. We may not have even considered the switch to FIOS if we had upgraded prior to agreeing to change. However, since agreeing to change Comcast sent us our new billing rate. It will be $50.00 more a month than our new service.

We only have one HDTV in the house. It gets all the channels but the rest of the rooms in the house only get the basic channels. With FIOS all rooms in the house will get all channels regardless what kind of TV is in them. Of course we are paying extra for that but it is still less than CC.

My wife's most pressing question is: Does FIOS have a similiar channel to CC that will bring her the Blazer and UO games? I believe CC's channel is called Comcast Sports Network (CSN). Where can we preview what channels we will have with FIOS? I suppose we will get that info tomorrow with the install.

Thanks to everyone. This is a great site.

...unless you are someone that uses the BitTorrent file transfer protocol, which Comcast actively blocks.

I do a lot of traffic every month downloading legal (yes, legal) BitTorrent file downloads. I would have to go to extreme measures to circumvent the filtering that Comcast is applying to their customers. Of course, Comcast also actively lobbies Congress to fight net neutrality.

A person's gotta get a job where they can, and I have no problem with that. However, if give the choice between DSL and Comcast I'm going to go with DSL every single time.
