Default Goose Spread

With the second goose season approaching I was wondering what other people prefer. This is directed towards goose hunting but duck answers are equally ok! How many decoys to you normally use in your average spread, I use DSD's so with the price Im limited on quantity...but i was thinking if i could have whatever I wanted how many would i put out? Is it best to put as many out as you can, or is it best to try to match the flock size useing the field at the time?

I have had some great shoots over a dozen DSD decoys.
I have friend who uses 8-12 decoys on a regular basis, and he kills a lot of limits. If you are where the birds want to be, all you need is a realistic looking spread. On average we use 4 dozen if we are on the X. Some times 6-8 dozen if the field has been really packed with birds or we are trying to traffic.
To answer your question, I would say 4 dozen would be a great spread if I had to pick a number. Its a reasonable number to get to the field in a cart. And it has a lot of pulling power.
The key here in the Valley, when it comes to decoys, is realism. And you have already got that figured out.
Hope that helps.

A small spread of good looking decoys are much better than a ton of bad ones for the valley. Use 10-20 and you will be fine as long as you scout.

An average spread for me consists of 3 dozen DSD. In certain situations i have killed limits over 6. If i could have as many as i wanted and it was a big open field i would put out 6 dozen. Plus it just looks so dang sweet But there are some fields where i think a dozen works better and you can control better where the geese land. But defenitely match how many geese are in the field and take into effect the size of the field to consider how many decoys you should use.

I usually put out all of them.
