Default Freezing Rain....

It's here. I got back from the store about a half hour ago and now the roads and sidewalks are skating rinks. Been raining for about an hour and it's 29 degrees here. Could be an interesting weekend.

Here just south of Portland it is 35 and just raining. It is melting the ice in the pond and bird bath.

Freezing rain in Mcminnville........ just coming out of Mcminnville headed toward newberg....... there is a bridge that crosses a creek that was totally frozen over...... I slid for about 50 yards until I got across the bridge.... luckily I was able to keep some control but it still was quite the wakeup call...... also the bridge coming into Newberg was also frozen over with a large traffic accident on it..

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.....

Aurora.... I-5 milepost 282B

Weather update is a mere 32 degrees and WET. Checking the forecast for moisture, show more to come. Looks real slick out.

Sitting here by the woodstove, watching TV. The woodstove has the room temp a nice warm temp of 73 degrees

Travel safe if you decide to venture out on the roads.

Went past some nasty wrecks on I-5 in the Ridgefield/ Woodland area around noon today. The East Fork Lewis bridge was a mess. I was southbound in a crawling traffic jam shortly after it happened. The northbound side where you come down the hill onto the bridge had 8 or 9 cars that all mostly fenderbendered each other and I think 3 were off the road. There was an ambulance over there so it may have been worse than it looked. My side was real bad. There were three vehicles still there- a pickup facing us the wrong way hit HARD in the front end and then against the concrete barrier was a small car more obliterated than I've seen a wrecked car. I counted at least 5 fire trucks and six ambulances on the scene along with numerous other rescue support vehicles. Anther mile up the road were two more cars- on off the road on the left and the other going onto a tow truck on the right. Then near the salmon creek overpasss on I205 there was a PU truck on the right shouldler on its SIDE!
All this time I was following a trucker with his flashers on going 20mph( I was towing my boat)- the traffic was flying by at 60mph still as if they had not a care in the world.

Sorry you all had the ice today. This was the first day this week it wasn't below 0 when I got up. It warmed up rapidly to a warm balmy 45 today with light rain. It was great.

I came into Portland via I-84 from the east and it was not a fun drive from Cascade Locks to the Corbett exit at around 10 this morning. The Corbett accident that killed a woman was not good.

And from that point west it was nothing but wet. I'm hoping all we see is snow tonight and tomorrow so I have a chance to get home.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not, but I-84 has been closed at Troutdale. I would assume from poor road conditions?

It was posted on the I-205 traffic alert sign at about 5:00 pm today.

Last I knew, SR-14 was still open with certain restrictions.

I-84 was re-opened around 6-7. It was slicker than , from Corbett to Cascade Locks this morning, and probably got worse, and over a greater length.

It's 33 degrees in Eugene, and has been snowing hard since 6 AM. We have at least 6" on the ground, and the National Weather Service says we are under a "Heavy Snow Warning" for 6-12" until Monday 4 PM.
