Default Phishing for info Scam

I have a message in my voice mail from someone claiming to be from my bank and it goes something like this: "Hi this is Tracy from XYZ Bank, this is not a sales call, I need to talk to you about your account, please call me at 555-1234 ext abc."
I call and the conversation goes like this:

"Tracy isn't in, I can handle your account, can you give me the phone number that you were called on."

"Sure, it's 503-555-5555"

"Sorry but that number doesn't come up, is there another number"

"No"

"Can I have your SSN"

"Hell No, Good by"

I then take their phone number down to my bank and I ask if there's anything wrong with my account. The banks reply is no and then I explane what has happen and I turn the info over to the bank manager.

Two words: SNAIL MAIL.

All reputable companies that I do business with have my address and can afford the 41 cents to send me a letter.

If it comes by email or phone, I ignore it. I NEVER reply, as it validates the email address to the phishers- and they turn around and sell it.

I get calls constantly from Brian Schwarz on my cell phone. Its a recorded message saying to call him back. Sounds like a similar situation. I did call the number back and found out there is no Brian at the number but they would be happy to help me if I supplied them with my SSN and phone number. Like you I did not fall for this. Online I typed in the phone number and found a website that lists numbers that are believed to be scam artists.
http://whocallsme.com/
Recent Phone Call Reports

This is a user supplied database of phone numbers of telemarketers, non-profit organizations, charities, political surveyors, SCAM artists, and other companies that don't leave messages, disconnect once you answer, ignore the Do-Not-Call List regulations, and simply interrupt your day.
If you received a strange call, most likely you are not the only one. Search for this phone number to see the reports of others. If there are no reports yet, leave your comment to start a conversation.

Been getting calls, at work... Caller ID is nice...

Found trick... Phone rings... Look at Caller ID's #..
Type it into Google.. BOOM pop's up as a Sale Calls,... with info, what that number does. Really handy... to have that feature...

Let phone ring.... Grab another coffee.

Thanks for the info on the whocallme website. If I can find the number I need to report the calls I got back in Nov.

Person kept calling and insisting that there was a women listed at "my" phone number named Misty. Told them that the only person named Misty at this phone number in the last 10 years is my dog but I would be happy to let them talk to the dog if it made them feel any better. They continued to call for about two week(about 30 phone calls) claiming that Misty owed them money. When I was home I enjoyed answering the phone and playing around with then. You know the standed stuff like wispering really quite for so they hold the phone close to their ear and then use the air horn, or just letting the dog bark into the phone.

But when they called at 2am I decided I had enough of the games and said yes this is "Misty" and if you don't stop calling I will be coming over to your office to kill everyone in the place. Yes I know it was not a good idea to say that but I was tired and figured if the police did show up at my house I would just tell them that it wasn't me and it must have been "Misty"

For some reason the calls stopped after that?

"Do not call me back, or I will report you to the police for telephonic harassment".

Then follow through.
