Default Kokanee..End of March ?

Received the baptism into kokanee at East Lake last summer ..am a believer now

this school spring break would like to plan some time with my teenager on the water. Have small boat/motor(14'-25 hp) but excellant plateform, (downriggers electric troller, etc.);

If it would not be to bold to ask, where would you reconmend to fish/camp at the, the last week of March ?

Anyone know if Wiskeytown Reservoir and Shasta are open? I am thinking about heading there with a teen about that time but haven't done the research yet. Just a 5 hour drive straight down I-5. Should be a lot warmer down there than here, and Wiskey has some biguns. East side, Lake Billy Chinook is worth checking, and should be a lot warmer than the other options, Suttle and Crescent, which are open year round. Seems like someone is always having a great day sometime in March at Suttle, but it's very hit and miss in March. I've fished there in snow one day and shirtsleeves the next in May. Looking forward to your report!

East side I would try Suttle or Lake Billy Chinook. On the Westside, Green Peter will be fishable. It seems the fish are scattered that time of year and it can be slow.

Whiskeytown is sure good looking water. Visited there last year and was impressed with the water clarity and scenic value. Sounds like a fun trip!

I have fished Shasta, lots of great fishing,I have done good up by the dam. Try Brokenback arm and Pitt river at the other end of the lake. Shasta is hudge 375 miles of shoreline gives you endless possabileties. Downriggers and a good map of the lake will help.

Mo,

The guy to talk to about Shasta and Whiskey is Gary Mirales of Shasta Tackle.

He'll be at the Portland Sportsmans Show.

thanks to everyone's response.

Someday hope to meet some of you on the water.

I have a "Silver Streak" welded aluminum open floor.

Have not seen another one like it. ( built in Canada )
