Suspension seats
Do you have suspension seats in your boat?
I am thinking about adding some to my boat. I am interested in how you like yours, what brands are good and maybe where the best deals might be.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Suspension seats
I don't have any seats at all on my dory. It is a standup helm, and strictly a standup boat. But I can sure see the day a few years down the road when my knees won't like working that hard on long trips offshore and a big, cushy suspension seat will sound pretty good.

Re: Suspension seats
I have the "Heavy Mariner" seat. same as in the CG Safe Boats and the BLACK ROCKET. They are about $1000.00 and 6 weeks lead time for delivery. You can see mine on the BLACK ROCKET if you're passing through Tillamook

Re: Suspension seats
Have em and love em. Crew is not always as thrilled about em as me and the person up front as the back seats are bench ( read more brutal).

Re: Suspension seats
I must be missing something here never needed an air seat in either Whaler-either you guys are goosing the throttles past the sea state conditions or your have a potato chip featherwieght for a hull or both? slow it down or move the helm back near center of hull out of the bow. Mark

Re: Suspension seats
Anybody every have hull problems beneath their suspension seats? One of the members of the main board found cracks in his hull directly beneath his suspension seats on both sides of his aluminum boat. The force has to go someplace and in his case it appeared to have gone straight down with some serious results.

Re: Suspension seats
Pay the $1500.00 for the option, and you will never regret it. I have them in my NorthRiver, and what a blessing they are.

Re: Suspension seats
I've got two of the Glyde-Ryde seats, just have not installed them yet. If I keep my boat I'll use them both, but if I get a new ride, with a heavier hull and better salty ride, I may have them to sell. I'll know in a couple months.
I sat in both the Mariner and the Glyde-Ryde at the boat show. The Glyde-Ryde are smoother. Do the Google thing for contact information. Good guy to deal with but the Coast Guard had just emptied his warehouse so I had to wait my turn for delivery. He just finished a slider/rotating seat mount. He has yet to price it, so you could be the first.

Which brand is the option that NorthRiver installs at their factory?

Re: Suspension seats
I have a hard riding small Sea Runner.
Got a seat from Clemens that they then send to Bentleys for upholstering.
(both Bentley and Clemens went out of their way for me on this deal)
Cant remember the name.
Best 1000.00 I ever spent.
Didnt bother buying one for the port side.
My crew is always standing in the back anyway.
Actually took out both of the Bench Seats and replaced them with the Igloo Marine coolers w/ a cushion on top.

Re: Suspension seats
Most I've seen are painted steel that will corrode in the salt environments. Any out there that are corrosion resistant?

Re: Suspension seats
I've seen that also. Not sure why they don't at least make ones that are galvanized.
I treat mine with a corrosion block that seems to help some.

Bentley will spray the underside on request. I think they will even do it for older installations. I mentioned the problem to them on one of my seats and they indicated they'd take care of it for me.

Re: Suspension seats
Jack, I stopped at the NR store the other day and they had a bigger badder pilot house in there with the new 350 hommiyopper. I think the air ride seats were already in it! Ya only live once then your goin out cold!

Re: Suspension seats
Since my boat was built it has had Harbor Freight equipment seats with spring and shock suspension. They have about 4" of travel, and work great if you weigh less than 250#. This is on a boat used regularly commercial fishing. 3 years ago I paid $100 each with free shipping on a sale and adapted them to my bases. Yes the seats are mounted near the front and would ride better near the center but the center is where the heavy weight of fishbox and live wells ride best. The other 2 seats in the cabin are regular marine buckets without suspension as that little distance rearward dramatically improves the ride. I have sprayed them with corrosion-x on occasion but had no problems. They do need to be in an enclosed cabin though or salt would destroy them. My sons boat has NR seats and I beleive that salt in an open boat would ruin them also with regular use.

From the web site
Compact GLYDE RYDE Marine Seating Suspensions (18 x 18 x 8 inches) feature high-strength, corrosion-proof 304 stainless steel construction protected by a durable powder coat finish.

Re: Suspension seats
If I wanted to protect the metal from corrosion I would have the bases plasticoated. It is much better in the salt and does not chip like powder coating. It is much softer thus it does not chip nor does it facilitate corrosion creep from the corrosion which can cause the harder powder coat to chip off.
