Default Nice to be out fishing today!

Went out fishing today out of Port Orford. The ocean was flat, it was sunny and cool. The fish were biting especially the lings. Tomorrow should be the same by the forecast!

Thanks for the update it had to be a tad chilly.Any big lings? How does the lift work there?Do you call them when you are returning?Do you have to be in by a certain time or the lift operator goes home?

they use big cranes to lift you in. you have to rig your own boat with the straps. most guys have brackets built to the contour of your boat and install two on the transom wherever the strongest point is and two up towards the bow on both sides. the crane operator doesn't go home until all boats are in which could end up pushing midnight this time of year with the commercial crabbers.

No big lings yesterday, they were between 10 and 15 pounds. We weren't targeting lings, if we had they probably would have been bigger, more bigger ones in deep.
The sand is back and more than it was before the last summers dredging. Watch for for tide heights on your GPS tide graph and beware of south winds.
The hoist is operated by the state and inspected.
The crane operator might like to leave sometimes but he will call on VHF. If he doesn't get you he just stays put. They are there till you return. Get the hoist shack phone number so you can call. I will post it later today when I have my cell with me.

Yesterday the lincod fishing was better, we caught probably 50 of them most from 8-25 pounds. Did catch one 34.5 pounds that I posted a picture of in my photo gallery. We were commercial live catch so turned them all loose. Fishing for other fish could have been better and could have been worse. The ocean was nice and the vis was about 20'.
