Default Another close cat encounter

Cougar Killed After Chasing Dog

LA PINE, Ore. - Officials were forced to kill a cougar after he was found chasing a family dog.
The homeowner called 911 when he saw the cougar chasing his dog in his back yard. He said his child had just let the dog out and was getting ready to head outdoors as well. The dog got back inside the house without being injured by the cougar.
When deputies arrived, the cougar was in a tree approximately 30 yards from the house.
The Oregon Department of Wildlife was contacted to evaluate the course of action. The cougar was killed because it was daytime and in a heavily populated area, authorities said. They took the cougar's body to ODFW for educational purposes.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to enjoy and appreciate the wildlife of the area but to avoid direct contact with wildlife when possible and in situations such as this remain in a safe location and call 911.
