Smile Nice 27' SEA SPORT for sale on GSA Auction

I tried talking some family members into bidding on this but they didn't seem interested and I can't because of the new buisness we opened last year. go to http://gsaauctions.gov and check out the boats this one is in bellingham WA it ends on 1/25/08. Last I checked high bid was $18,000. whoever gets this boat is going to have one nice ride. I was checking around and the closest price I could find was $74,000 for a 1996 on yacht world. They also have a 2004 26 FT ALUMINUM CHAMBERED BOAT in florida not sure who made it but an interesting looking boat. Can't wait for the buisness to start making money so I can find a great boat like this.

That's the one with the out drive sitting on a pallet. Engine and out drives problems can run up the bills pretty quickly.

Did anyone see the new style of Sea Sport sportfisher at the boat show. Smaller cabin and more fishing space. And for $50K. New! Huge storage for the catch.

Looks to me like that is just an extra outdrive on the pallet because there is also one on the boat. No matter, at that price you could deal with a lot of motor and outdrive problems and still come out way ahead.

I was looking at that auction too. I buy from the government for a living and always go into it with the idea that the entire lot may have to be dropped off right at the dump. With a boat like that, you have to buy it with a worst case scenario in mind and be thankful if it turns out better than expected. To re-power that with a Volvo D6, you would be looking at $50k minimum. It doesn't look like there is an outdrive on the back of the boat, I think that is just the transom shield.

Thanks for the heads up.
I dont understand why they want me to give them my security code to my credit card to bid. Especially over the internerd.
If the outdrive is off, there is a reason.
Not too worried about rebuilding the engine as long as the block is O.K.
I can do that myself. In frames are pretty easy.

I owned a 27 Pilot for 11 years. If I had it do do over again I never would've bought the boat.

They have very little dead rise and are rough riding in heavy seas. With the raised pilot house it also tends to be a little top heavy and rolly.

Impossible to see forward from the cockpit and I wouldn't certainly recommend a close inspection for dry rot.

I think that ACB in Florida is the deal. No bids on it yet. I think it's the second time through the GSA bidding process for the boat. It'll have a reserve on it, but that's one sweet boat. Probably doesn't have the name they do in the NW. One they had in Michigan last ran up quite a bit in the last few days, but I think this one never reached the reserve price the last time it was up.

Only drawback with the GSA auctions is you have to get the boat moved within a few days of winning the bid. Doesn't leave much time to get shipping arranged and hooked up.

Ditto what 2fister said. The ACB is the sheeit. But the Florida folks aren't interested in an unsinkable aluminum boat; no built-in martini holders, and no place for the bikinis to stretch out. If that boat was in the NW, the bidding would look very different.

You won't find any complaints about extra room of bikinis and martinis from me Mark....

Be the only guy on the block with A/C on your tuna slayer!!

The ETECs alone are worth some serious jack and it looks like it's got a pretty good electronic package.

So those are E-tecs? I couldn't tell by the model #'s..... but I don't know anything about Evinrude #'s. When it comes to any remote-buying, unless I had a reliable (running) engine survey done, I'd just price it on the assumption that the motors are shot.

I should qualify that. I ran the model numbers on google and all of the info that came back was for ETECs. I think the "E" series motors are ETECs, but anyone interested in bidding should definitely do more research than I did. I completely agree about assumptions on remote buying. It's definitely buyer beware. If they turned out to be FICHTs I would price the boat minus any engine value. I have been able to talk to the mechanics on a couple of GSA boats that I've been interested in, but there have been others where the folks on the other end of the line were less than cooperative...

Looks to me like the ACB doesn't have a bow on it. Take a look at the middle picture of the 3 small ones. Looks like a house boat. Nice squared off front end. Go out the front door and dive into the water.
Actually, the large picture doesn't look anything like the front of the boat that is depicted in the middle picture. Even my son said it looks like a pontoon boat. So what's the matter with this picture? Also look at the rubrail line; they aren't the same either.

I think those Eninrudes are Ficht motors not Etecs.I was on ebay and around the internet looking at pics and model numbers.I know VERY little about Evinrude motors. What is the diffrence in a Ficht and an Etec?

Elim,
If those are Ficht motors they are pretty much worthless. Fichts were Evinrudes first attempt at high pressure direct injection 2 stroke motors and they have a bad reputation. Whether or not that reputation is deserved or not is up for some debate as they apparently worked out some of the kinks in the latter models, but lots and lots of people had serious problems with them. Ask Tomictime about Ficht motors and he'll substitute a "u" and a "k" and an "ed" for a few of the letters. Lots of boats with Ficht motors have a really hard time selling. The graphics of the ETECs and Fichts are very similar so you really want to trace the serial number through Evinrude or ACB.

I agree about the front door set up. There were a couple of boats at a lodge in BC in the fall issue of Salmon and Steelhead Journal that used ACBs and they had the same thing. Looks like you'd be going out onto the front porch to salmon fish....

Bob the bow of the ACB up for auction looks nothing like the ones in your pictures. At least the picture in the middle sure doesn't. Really doesn't even look like the same boat as the rubrail angles are all wrong.

Thats a typical GSA photographer most of the pictures are not that great. It may be how they post the photo. That sea sport is now up to 40k. I thought it would go less than that. I see the current high bidder is MAVERICK369@EAR is that the maverick thats on I fish. I agree thats a cool ACB but would be a pain to get it over here.

Just from the lack of interest of the guy your supposed to get info from, I bailed on the Sea Sport.
He claimed he didnt have the time to deal with the auction because he was too busy and already answered 100-200 inquiries.
I would think that he would be more available at the end of the auction when the price was up at $30,000 plus. People bidding on it now are the ones with the $. Not to mention that if he had that many inquiries then he should have answered those questions on the site so he didnt get 200 calls.
Dont know what the guy does besides the auction, but he isnt doing the auction much good. The guy was very rude.

elim,
I believe the correct expression would be "Fugedaboutit!" Fichts are strike one, a $60K reserve would be strike two, shipping would be strike 3. You might keep an eye on it because, as I remember it, the ACBs that sold in Michigan this past fall sold for substantially less than $60K.

When I did contract work for the Forest Circus there were always a few folks working the system for GSA deals. It was pre-internet auctions so it was just wholesale at the auction yard. They'd keep trucks on really light duty with lots of maintenance. Just before they would get cycled out of the system by GSA they'd take them to get really good and muddy. They'd go to the sale looking like heck and they would have a friend there to scoop them up cheap. One run through the car wash and they had a low mile vehicle with really good maintenance records. I knew one guy who made a pretty comfortable side income that way.

Anywho, too bad it doesn't look like it will work out!

the sea ark looks pretty good. weld over the front deck and resell the fiction's... (Dan was right about my experience and opinion of them)...and you might have a pretty decent tuna boat.

the Nevada whaler w motor on pallet might also work, w caveats about knowing how to repair unique whaler sandwich construction...(not that hard IF you can follow some simple rules and processes....).....

WOW!! One bid on the ACB and the guy bids $51,000!!! Apparently he really wants that boat.

Other thing to take note of is that he is listed as the "winning" bid when you look at the bid details. When the reserve isn't met it says "Reserve Not Met". So much for the $60,000 reserve price.

Those 22' Whalers in Vermont look pretty nice too. They are only starting at $100, but the reserve isn't met at that price. I'll bet they could be had for less than $5,000 if the Nevada boats are any indication. They also don't have the funky cut out door like the Nevada boats.

Sea Ark makes a nice boat according to the folks on thehulltruth.com

Yeah, bit of a gamble for sure. It a nice ride with a strong following and resale market and could still be a good deal assuming the outdrive issue does not extent to a bad powerplant, and that the other essencials, wiring harness, interior cushions, electronics, gelcoat and hull integrity are all in good repair without major money pits. At 50-60K you'd want more info for sure.

I think for that High I would make sure to get a closer look. Usually you can personally go look at stuff if you have the time. This auction is higher than I thought it would go. Still if all works out its going to be a good deal.

88bills for a diesel. If the GSA unit went for 70, and the guy invests another 10 into it, he sounds like he is still money ahead on the deal.

Yep, and 5 years newer, just all depends on condition. Then again if someone was planning on buying this to turn it around and make a buck, not much margin in it.

Tomic-I have not looked closely at any other GSA boats.

The individual from this weeks sale was in fine condition. Yes the hyd lines on the outdrive needed some love & attention. But the hull itself was pretty much perfect. One nick out of the gel coat well above the water line(Looks like a boat hook mishap maybe???)

I cannot speak of other individual rigs on there. But this one for 70 is not a bad deal in the big picture. He has been looking for these boats for a long time. This is the second boat he has considered actually buying.

If you can show me a turn key good condition diesel SS for 70, I will show you an interested buyer.

Talked with the guy where it was located a couple times. Hell I even bid up to 40K when I quit. The boat was partially submerged from a 2" hole which a through hull ducer failed. He told me they flushed/started the engine a couple times. Still has the hole in it and hasnt been fired up since last summer

My point was and is non-gsa boats go for a premium for a reason. Value is certainly in the eye of the payer.
