Default 350 vs 383 stroker

Is there anybody out there that has put in an 383 to replace the 350 and did it make any difference, either out of the hole or ????

thanks

Definitely will generate more horsepower and torque than the 350 ... But a better hole shot I don't know ... My 500+ hp. 383 experiences took place on wheels instead of water ...

A good friend has a 21' Sea Ray (older boat and very heavy) he is also a hot rodder and after many years with the stock 350 he built a 383. Made a huge difference. Stainless prop will help with all the additional torque.

Comparing engines so similar in size is basically irrelevant. A 350 has 90% of the displacement of a 383. The reason most 383s make so much more power is, nobody builds a 383 with a bunch of factory parts, like cams, heads, valves, intakes, etc, everything is normally aftermarket. Put the same parts on a 350 and you have a very similar motor.

The package of correctly matched parts is what makes an engine work well. With the millions of possible engine parts combinations you could make with a small block Chevy, comparing the size doesn't matter so much.

Bigger is usually better, though. Spending the money to buy the displacement when you could spend it making an existing engine more efficient may not be the best use of that money.
