Default Here it is Dogs!

Alright you salty dogs ... BugMan the pest has finally taken delivery of his first boat and I can't wait to get this buggy in the water and baptize it in that red tuna sauce. Taking my safety boating courses in Feb.

Its a 20' NR Seahawk. 150 HP Yamaha 4-stroke with kicker.

I queried you all on what to buy months ago and this is what I ended up with. If I could have bought two used boats, I would have bought a "glass" for offshore and this one for river. In the short-term, this will serve me for offshore on very good days after I have a chance to run out there with a few of you, (names not mentioned) to learn the ropes and my sea legs.

Has everything I need in electronics from Garmon GPS/Fish Sonar to VHF to CB radio for my eight yr old to play on while we fish the river. Have a friend helping on safety items to pass inspection and what to buy for offshore when the day comes. Personal locater high on my list along with radar.

Been busy buying some flags and been wondering what unique flag would make me stand out and be recognized by all you dogs. If you see a boat like this one running the "United Federation of Planets" Star Trek flag off it's tower ... you will know its me. Just hope I don't break too many rules out there when I get started. Then again, perhaps I should hide my identity for a while.

Anyway .. thx for all the input in the past ... lets get this fishing season started!!!

Congrats, Bug!!! That's got 'fish' written all over it. I'll bet that 150 runs super efficient and will take you where you need to go.

Come to think of it, I watched a 20' Seahawk put on an absolute tuna clinic one day. Maybe you're next.

Nice boat.

Hey, nice boat! I have a honda 150 and T8 on my 20' seahawk. It is nice spending a long day out running around and only burning 25 gallons.

I have the same barewest arch too. Salt got in the bolt holes where the top joins the sides and started a real nice corrosion under the clear finish. I don't know what you can do preventively. I think I might pull the bolts, wire brush the corrosion off, get the tubes welded together and (refinish with what??). I consider those top bolts a defect in their design for saltwater use. Otherwise a great, solid arch that folds down and easy to install. With aluminum I now have a big preference for welded over bolted. Also when they finished my rocket launchers they sent them to my work in a plain brown box with a simple "barewest" label and I heard the "okaaaay" from the ship clerk. I opened the box right there to head off any rumors. On nice days out salmon fishing I sit up on the arch to look for signs o life.

My VHF antenna is at the same point as yours. I recently rigged a cabin boat and put the antennas up high on an arch above the cabin and I was impressed with better performance. I know it is a pain once they are in place but something to consider when going out miles. I didn't hear bar reports from Astoria and Florence before.

Radar on the barewest arch only had room for the front or back pair of mounting bolts. The arch isn't deep enough fore to aft for all four bolts with the arch tubes in the way. You might consider getting/making a riser to mount it and get it above rocket launchers, gps antenna bases, etc... I didn't, wish I would have. Unfortunately I trimmed the radar power cable a little too neatly and now I don't have room to raise the radar. I'll have to get new cables. Two bolts on the radar has been firm enough.

Congradulations!! Great looking boat, I know you will put TONS of fish in it. It is also cool you made me feel as excited again about my 14 year old boat as you are now.

Have fun - should be lots of good days on the water.

While the antennas look cool at an angle - they work a bit better when they are straight up and down.

Very cool NR's .... like the arches and rocket launchers .. yeah, thinking I need some rocket lauchers to on my boat .. eventually ... wish list when time and money allows.

Its a 2003 with adjustments to solve the Porpoising that impacted the boats back then with the offshore brackets. About 250 hrs on the main engine, dual bildge pumps, one with floater, wash down pump, those spring air ride seats up front etc. In super shape all around. Excellent boat and easy to handle with only one person. It will be a super boat to learn the ropes with. I bought it directly from a friend.

Darn .. I am so looking forward to getting it out. Next on my list is a used truck to tow it.
