Default Coast Guard pulls out of Depoe and Florence

To tell you this story I must admit to reading the Snore-a-gonian. At least I can say that I found it and didn't buy it. In the Metro section is an article about redeployment of rescue crews from the two mentioned places to Puget Sound.

Evidently the national hysteria is even affecting the fishers on the left coast. The article makes it sound as if the Siuslaw bar will be unattended this winter by the CG. What about Depoe Bay? Does it make sense to deploy the Coast Guard to look for one man Afghani suicide subs on the Pacific coast?

IMHO they are much better used for their traditional mission .... Protecting the fishers and sailors who venture into the unfriendly Pacific.

What do you think?

Depoe Bay is one of the best ports for small boats like mine, partly because of the Coast Guard presence. The danger zone when crossing Depoe is short and sweet, a quick sprint out to safe water...I like that. I much prefer Depoe over Tillamook, which has an enormous danger zone.

Losing the Coast Guard at Depoe would darned near take Depoe off the table as a viable port for me.

Pilar

I have to agree with you. There will always be someone in need of the coast
guard.... and they will not be there.

What's wrong Pilar? Afraid you'll have to cut out all that offshore drilling?

It may be an inconvenience for some of you, but the threat to our National Security is being taken seriously right now in the Puget Sound. Sorry to disagree with you all.

Any idea what happens when a small boat filled with explosives hits an AOE carrying fuel and ammunition?

Wow, lay off the Tom Clancy novels dude! Thanks for the pointer Aunty M. Is that the threat that is expected?

Remember all I had to go on is our informative local newspaper.

Not Boomers, ******. If I told you more I'd have to kill you soon after.

Let's not forget to mention the "Terrorist" that was arrested in Port Angeles. He came across the Ferry from Victoria BC.

Pilar, yes, that is a possibility. I hear they are mounting big guns on Coasty Boats. They are being very bossy too!

Damn, and I was going to be all respectful because I heard you rode the nuke boats and now you are gonna' tell me you rode the diesel boats? No wonder you are sea crazy
dude!

Tell me and kill me? How much Radioman butt did you kiss in the Navy to find out the scoop? Highest clearances at sea, and you know it. LOL. Of course the "gummies" though otherwise, but they were the "gummies."

Kind of funny, I bring this up in another thread and I'm told that this whole terrorist thing has nothing to do with fishing and not to keep off topic threads to a min.
Just goes to show you it does effect every part of our lives.
Wouldn't want to be in trouble out in the big water right now.

Hey Sinker, point well taken. That's the risk you run inviting people to share what they are thinking. The Coast Guard are IMHO, heroes and anyone that wants to talk about them on this board is welcome to.

What does this have to do with fishing? Let's put it this way .... No Coast Guard, no offshore fishing for 'Pilar'. It's that simple. BTW those guys fish too. I've seen them hammering Halibut at the chicken ranch on numerous occasions.

******, not diesel and not Boomers, fast attack. I glow in the dark because I worked back aft.

We both know there is no place like useta-fish.

Easy, then don't go out. If you have a "calling" to go out there then maybe it's natural selection calling you.
