Default Yaquina Bay Monday

Fished low to high slack.
Came home empty handed.
Saw a few hooked and lost.
Nephew's father-in-law landed a 20+ in another boat.
Talked to one angler who caught a jack.
We had a mangled herring and no hookup.
Action was heaviest around the oyster farm.
Oh well.
Caca occurs.
Nice day though.

Hey John,
Fished Yaquina over the weekend, most of the action around oyster farm Saturday and Sunday, too. Saturday we moved up by Boone Point, 31 marker, dropped herring down into the 20+ feet deep water and promptly hooked a big wild coho, 15lb+.
Sunday after frustrating myself around the oyster house again, I moved closer to the ocean, around 21, dropped herring into that deep slot and hooked a chrome 27lb hen with sea lice all over her **** fin.
I found moving around alot and concentrating on the deeper water produced fish, but it will be interesting to see what some of the bigger tides will produce this month.
I want to try running lighter weight next time I fish around the oyster house, too. Two ounces was putting me down right behind the boat, and I think you want to be a ways back so as not to spook the fish (see Tillamook Bay thread).

I fished there sunday all day and today (tues) in the evening. Saw very few fish caught sunday, and even fewer today. Didnt go as far down as the oyster farm today, as i was marking fish with the sonar further up. I heard it was hot for a little while at the oyster farm early this morning though. Mayble i will try deeper water later this week. Yeah i found one ounce to be perfect depth/distance with a spinner.

Hi Harold,

You're probably right about going lighter. Tides seemed fairly slow-moving. We should have just anchored at the oyster farm and kicked back.

Is anyone going to salvage the ship that sunk off of Riverbend?

FYI Last year up around Elk City my father and I ran spinners with 2 oz. and got nothing. But, on day two as we took out for lunch, we spoke to other boaters that had Chinook in the boat and they were running spinners, but with 1/2 - 1 oz. We ran up to the store and within 30 minutes of trolling Fish On!!! Hope this helps and good luck out there. I'll be in that area on Thursday and Friday (21' Bayliner Classic)

Any info from the Elk City area? I would like to maybe try up there later this week, but with bright fish still being caught down low, I was wondering about the success up high. I have lots of nice homemade spinners and eggs, but have never fished around Elk City. It would be great if we got some rain and we could head further up the gravel road without the boat,- enough said..
