On or about 15 October 2007 a new law mandating 10% Ethanol in
ALL gasoline in the state of Oregon, without exception went into effect. The law was HB 2210. The law says that the entire state of Oregon is to be converted in 3 months. No joke, read the law, that's what it says. For marinas this is a disaster. The only other state that implemented a mandatory E10 law without exceptions was Hawaii. To understand the results to their marine industry, see:
http://starbulletin.com/2007/03/18/e...mmentary3.html For the last two years their marine industry has had to live with the law, but late in 2007 the law was finally changed to make premium unleaded without ethanol available at marinas. The only other states that have mandatory E10 laws are Minnesota and Missouri but they have exceptions for premium unleaded at marinas, race car tracks, for classic cars, airplanes and all 2 cycle powered devices.
Boat owners should read the US Coast Guard Boating Safety Circular 85, pages 6 - 10. There are certain boats with fiberglass fuel tanks that you can never put E10 in. These boats are now useless! Marina owners and all boat owners need to call your legislators and tell them about the danger to the marine industry and copy USCGBSC85 here:
http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/pdfs/BSC85_1.pdf
Ask them why if ethanol is the holy grail of clean air and energy independence why did they have to mandate it and give tax breaks to industry? What gave them the right to turn over
EVERY gas tank in Oregon to the ethanol industry? Tell them about Hawaii and ask them to exempt marinas, or at least exempt premium unleaded so at least some gasoline at the marina won't have ethanol in it. And ask the Oregon State Marine Board why they didn't represent you in the legislative hearings.
