Default Somebody please tell me what this is?!?!?!

I humbly appeal to thee, o wise and all-knowing ifishers, to assist my unworthy self in identifying this.........thing.

And for you smart-alecks out there, I know it's a Buckeye #2, and I know that the lower object is a mechanical pencil. It's there for scale. So don't try to make me feel stupid; I'm there already.

I gotta find some of these, but in a different size. Common sense says it's a clamp, but I've Googled about every known clamp in this solar system to no avail. I know that the bolt in the middle is commonly known as a jack bolt, or maybe it's just a set screw.
I've tried flange clamp, bulkhead clamp, screw clamp, spring clamp, claw clamp, menstrual clamp, Jed Clampett, etc.
It's probably not called a clamp, even though that's what it does. Maybe some stupid name like "reverse 2-jaw robollowitz bandersnatch".
All I know is that I won't be a happy clamper until I find some of these.

An old style of gear/hub puller would be my guess.

It looks like a puller to me ... designed to remove something like a flange or a roller bearing from a rod. The jack screw pushes on the end of the rod, while the hooks pull on the flange or whatever.

That is the retainer for the cap on a filter used in all types of liquid processes.

It does resemble a pitman arm puller, but the screw isn't long enough. A specialized puller could have a short forcing screw and fixed jaws, but this is unlikely.

Believe it or not, the ones I need are about a third that size, and they function as clamps. They hold the covers on elbow sheaves, which resemble a pull-through elbow like an electrician would use on conduit. That's where I got the clamp fixation.
The equipment that they're on no longer uses these things (they changed the design), but I have a lot of old ones that have to be replaced.
I was thinking it was for a blind flange, but it doesn't match up to any normal pipe size.

Oh, OK. I knew I'd seen them somewhere before. That makes sense. I'm in the fluid processing business, but most of our equipment uses Y-strainers or really big basket strainers with bolted flanges. I think that we have some old strainers sitting around in a warehouse that used these. Maybe the "2" denotes a 2 inch filter.

Thanks, dudes! That gets me on track. Now I just gotta find smaller ones, and a lot of them.

Like this one.........

We don't have any of these left in service, but maybe I can scrounge up an old one.

Thanks again!

See these used to hold lid on filters.
