Default Ducks in Fields

So I have never targeted ducks in a field before, but tonight I was scouting where to set up for Geese tomorrow and there were a few dozen mallards feeding out in the field about 100 yards away from the geese. I only own water decoys but can take the keel off of a few so they can set in the field. Is there anything more I can do to increase my success at getting a shot at these ducks if they come back to the same spot tomorrow. I will definatly call at them if needed but are the water decoys even worth the effort?

Short notice post and thanks in advance if anyone can help me out.

Bryan

Just stick with your goose decoys and bring along your duck calls. Ducks will decoy to goose decoys pretty easy if your where they want to be.

I was kind of hoping that was the case. I just wasnt sure of the duck decoys would increase my odds or are they a waste of time.

Thanks for the response.

I often decoy ducks w/o duck deeks in a field spread.however, it sure won't hurt and it might help to place 6-12, especially if you have a wet spot. If you palce them off to the side OR, better yet, if you have a spinner, use it! they work for D & G.

You could put out a few (3-6) duck decoys but don't use the spinner. geese don't like it and in that situation the ducks are either comin there or their not.

forget the duck decoys. Just go about your goose hunting ritual but bring a duck call.

Some full bodies early then pull them when the goose shoot starts.
