Default North American Hunting Club

I'm sure somebody posted this before. I just got the "invitation" in the mail today to join with the benefits of receiving free stuff to try out. Anybody ever get anything from these guys other than the initial free knife, cookbook, etc.??? Like the free bow, or rifle or latest scent to try in the woods?? Thanks

I was a "member" for a couple years. I got to field test some mosquito spray. I thought the magazine was worth the cost. Not to mention there is the possibilty to get something a little better than mosquito spray. I thought it was pretty good little club. I just didn't have money to renew when moving away to college. Just my .2

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is! I got that stuff and they sent me a bill anyway. Pay attention, all that free stuff only comes with a long membership.

Like that. You're right. Is there really a possibility? It's like $12 a year. Guess you can't really go wrong with that; putting money into a lottery. LOL Maybe give it a shot.

Thanks Don. That was a help. Knew it was here before. Good topic though. For a $12 lottery, what the heck.

I'm glad it helped. 'Lot of controversy there but, I agree the magazine alone is worth the dues. Don

Decent magazine but remember you will also get all sorts of crap including books that you need to either send back or pay for. The hassle of all the crap that comes in the mail is not worth dealing with to get the magazine. Just my

I dropped my subscription, apparently, before they got onto the book and mailing thing you describe. I don't want to get into a bunck of that cr&p. And, for me personally, hunting outside of the Northwest is of little interest. Boy, they sure did beg and plead for me to renew! I thought the begging and pleading would never stop. But, eventually, it did. Don

I joined this club as a life menber, once they received full payment i have not received anything including their magazine in several months. Most of the items i recived were not even worth the postage it cost to sent it. Not a good choice.

You would be better off sending your money to one of the many excellent conservation groups....D.U., NWTF, RMEF, OHA. The North American Hunting Club is whack.

I agree with Limbhanger. I had numerous problems with them. They threatened to take my 15 year old daughter to collections. Keep your money in the state of OREGON. Join OHA.

Wow, looks like a lot of people had some bad experiences. I did not have any but it looks like it was just a matter of time. Like many others have said, OHA, RMEF, DU, ect. would be a better bet.

About ten years ago I signed into the membership, filled out the form to be a field tester...two weeks later received an awesome DO-ALL Double clay thrower and two cases of clays! Then received other small trinkets/gadgets over the years including BBQ sauce, a single X-scent wipe, a bobbin of red thread called WINDICATOR, bug repellant wipe, some other things I have forgotten, then just two weeks ago received a pair of IronClad camo work gloves

BTW, I have been a Life Member for the last five years. Have not had any issues with them. My

I was a member of the fishing equivalent (same company?): North American Fishing Club for a couple of years.

As I recall, there is a yearly membership fee. And then, there may(??) or may not have been another fee or two during the year that I became obligated to pay. I don't really remember.

They also sent me books to preview and pay for if I wanted to keep them, or return. That was OK, except the price of the books was a little high (I thought) and I had to pay for return shipping if I did not want to keep them. I spoke about it with a customer service rep, and he generously mailed me 3-5 prepaid return labels, so that I would not have to continue to pay return shipping on future books.

As far as field testing items, a member is allowed to field test (and keep) 1 product per year. But for me, I seemed to be getting more than 1 thing per year. I received 2 or more fishing lures and a Kistler bass rod (and maybe another thing or two) to field test during my 2 year membership. The retail price on the Kistler rod alone was around $200, and so that made my whole membership worthwhile.

I was hoping to field test some of Okuma, Abu, and Pflueger reels they had available, but ended up with the Kistler rod instead.

To get on their field test program, you need to regularly fill out a form, where you indicate your fishing interests (bass, trout, tuna, etc.), type of equipment you own (boat, float tube, etc.), shoe/coat size, etc. Presumably, this information is supposed to be used by them to best match test products with members (field testers). I NEVER filled out "bass" and "boat" in the form for myself, since I thought that 99% of the members are bass fishermen with boats and so I thought that I could increase my chances of being selected as a field tester whenever they had non-bass products to be field tested, as compared to trying to be one of thousands of bass fishermen members trying to be selected for the few field tester positions. My strategy kinda worked... I got selected 3+ times during 2 years to be a field tester. But wouldn't you know it... all the products that I field tested were bass fishing products!

From time to time, they also mailed me free gifts (different from field test items). I received a couple spools of mono, hooks, swivels, a fillet knife, and various other fishing knick knacks.

For me, it turned out to be a pretty good membership. I quit because I did not want to continue paying fees (I'm cheap), their magazine was more suited to bass fishing than our salmon/steelhead, and I have way too much fishing stuff cluttering my house already.

Their repeated/frequent mailings asking to become a life member were kinda annoying, as mentioned above. It was confusing to read them and wonder whether or not I owed them money for something, or whether it was junk solicitation mail. Even after my membership expired, I still received letters from them telling me that "it is not too late to renew your membership..."

Overall, my experience with membership was quite positive. But I can also see it as being a disaster for the next guy.

They do have regular TV shows on OLN (Versus)

A complete ripoff! I was a member, and was buying a set of books from them. Then I was asked to become a life member which I declined to do. The next thing I knew they were taking my book payments and putting it toward the life membership I didn't want and telling me I was late on the book payments.

It took me 2 months to get it straightned out and then I told them were they could stick thier little club.

YEAH MAN!!!!! I HATE THIS "ORGANIZATION". KIND OF LIKE A RECORD CLUB I JOINED ONCE....THEY ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO GET A BIT MORE MONEY OUT OF YOU, OR ARE SENDING YOU STUFF THAT YOU HAVE TO RETURN OR THEY BILL YOU. THE ONLY THING I RECIEVED WAS ANTI-RUST RAG IN A "WETNAP" PACKAGING...OH AND THE ZIPPER PULLS MEDALIONS. I AGREE, JOIN SCI, OHA,DU, or RMEF....OF COURSE NRA
